Pasco-Hernando State College company history timeline

1967

In 1967, the Florida Legislature founded Pasco-Hernando Community College as the 28th and final link to the state's system of community colleges.

PHSC was established in 1967 by the Florida Legislature and is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award the associate degree, as well as two bachelor's degrees.

1972

Doctor Milton O. Jones, a St Petersburg Junior College dean, was named PHCC's first president in 1972.

1975

The PHSC Foundation, launched in 1975 by 17 local business leaders, now has more than $39 million in assets, support scholarships, program enhancements and faculty and staff development funds.

1977

The West Campus in New Port Richey was established in 1977 on 140 acres of pristine property donated by rancher Alric C.T. Pottberg.

PHCC secured 100 acres on United States 98 in Brooksville for the North Campus, the first Hernando County location, in 1977.

1979

The Spring Hill Center was opened in 1979 to serve central and western Hernando County and closed to make way for the permanent Spring Hill Campus located on United States 19.

1994

The College's founding president, Doctor Milton O. Jones, served the College for 22 years, retiring in 1994.

2005

Upon Doctor Judson's retirement in 2005, Doctor Katherine M. Johnson, formerly president of North Carolina's Nash Community College, was named PHSC's third president.

2014

On January 21, 2014 the College's District Board of Trustees (DBoT) revised the College's mission to include offering bachelor's degrees and voted to officially change its name to Pasco-Hernando State College.

2015

An extensive national search resulted in the District Board of Trustees selecting Doctor Timothy Beard as the next president of PHSC. Formerly PHSC's vice president of student development and enrollment management, Doctor Beard became the College's fourth president on July 1, 2015.

2017

Some of the newest programs include the Associate in Science in Professional Pilot Technology and the Associate in Science in Aviation Administration both of which PHSC began offering in the fall of 2017.

2018

Additional aviation programs, Aviation Maintenance Administration and Unmanned Vehicle Systems Operations Associate in Science (AS) degrees, have recently been approved by Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) and are slated to begin in 2018.
