JOB SUMMARY: Accessioning Clerk under the direction of the Accessioning Supervisor performs daily accessioning activities of receiving specimens, accessioning specimens, and scanning of requisitions into scan system. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Receives and clocks in specimens from couriers timely; verifies that specimens recorded on courier logs are received.
Prioritizes and sorts specimens appropriately for accessioning and processing.
Performs data entry login of patient demographics, clinical information, specimen source, and test(s) orders from specimen requisitions into computer systems and accessions specimen containers as needed or required.
Checks test(s) ordered for medical necessity requirements and ABN if applicable. Documents any orders, which are lacking appropriate documentation to supervisor.
Documents all problem cases appropriately.
Scans requisitions and all related paperwork, into the scan system, and shreds documents as needed.
Reviews specimen requisitions against data entry of requisition information, for accuracy, documents errors noted and forwards documentation to supervisor, and corrects errors found.
Answers departmental phone calls and assists clients as needed.
Contributes to a positive work climate and to the team effort of the department and company.
Exercise all laboratory safety precautions and adhere to lab procedures as stated in procedure manuals.
Perform all job responsibilities in alignment with the industry's best security practices and regulatory guidelines to protect the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of protected health information and other sensitive company data.

Perform various duties to include accessioning, gross examination of tissue specimens, functioning independently under direction of the pathologists and various histology duties to include: embedding, cutting, staining, coverslipping and case management of the daily slides. This position is also to be knowledgeable about special and immunohistochemistry staining in the histology laboratory.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Assist in preparing tissue specimens for gross examination. If necessary, assist with accessioning.
Submit and dictate all surgical specimens for processing.
Maintain and keep cutting area properly supplied and clean.
Discard routine tissue specimens after two weeks and 1 day.
Embed, cut, H&E stain, coverslip and aid with case management.
Maintain knowledgeable about special and immunohistochemistry stains.
Prepare fresh solutions, stains and/or reagents.
Utilize the Ventana Vantage system for labeling slides for multiple uses in the histology laboratory.
Keep Microtome and workstation clean and maintain proper QC.
Maintain quality control of procedures and equipment.
List needed inventory on the dry erase board.
Clean, change solutions and properly set all tissue processors and have basic maintenance knowledge.
Properly dispose and handle hazardous waste to include xylene recycling.
Exercise all laboratory safety precautions and adhere to lab procedures as stated in procedure manuals.

Assist with periodic inventory counts, report shortages and problems to Manager or Supervisor as they occur; stocks supplies as needed.
Provide supply orders as specified by Branch Manager.
Work effectively with staff employees to ensure compliance with dress code, EHS & QA requirements, customer service requirements and SOP's, advising Manager or Supervisor of any issues or problems as they arise.
Performs other department-related clerical duties when assigned.
Answers phone and dispatch calls when assigned.
Participates on teams and special projects when asked.
Assist Manager or Supervisor with the implementation of SOPs for examiner services in accordance with Quest Diagnostics guidelines.
With direction and guidance from Manager or Supervisor, and having appropriate training guidelines, act as mentor and resource person for new employees providing support for department protocols, practices and procedures.
Assist with distribution of technical information and communications to the work group.
Flexible travel (up to 25 mile radius) and flexible work hours. Maintain dates of availability and dates unavailable in Examview.
All other duties as assigned, within scope of the position.
Required use of company i-pad or specified electronic device.
Qualifications
Required Work Experience:
Minimum 100 documented successful blood draws required.
Minimum one-year phlebotomy experience. Experience with pediatric and geriatric patients is a plus.
Preferred Work Experience:
Prefer urine or hair follicle collection and EKG experience.

They must be capable of operating radiation-producing equipment utilizing radiation safety measures and be able to perform a series of complex and precise technical procedures.

Participates in Quality Control Monitoring.
• Delivers consistent precise therapy to a designated treatment area.
• Demonstrates skill in patient assessment, performing procedures and giving specialty care to patients, considering the age of the patient and appropriately adopts care for age (adolescent, adult and geriatrics).
• Documents appropriately in Electronic Medical Record (EMR)
