For me, attention to detail. This is a very detail-oriented profession, so misspellings and lack of necessary information are pet peeves of mine. Here in Georgia, all candidates must have graduated from an accredited MLT or MLS program and be board certified by either ASCP, AMT, or ABB. Other states, such as New York and California, have more stringent requirements. Fundamentally, medical laboratory professionals are the ones performing the testing to diagnose disease, and to ensure the correct results are available for physicians, medical laboratory professionals should meet these requirements.
