Responsibilities


Pathology Reporting Specialist Under the supervision of department manager, performs a variety of tasks in support of Pathologists and other allied healthcare providers. Accountable for ensuring accuracy and completeness of all documents, tests ordered and patient case reports; which allows the Pathologists to focus on patient care. Tasks include transcribing pathology reports, as well as research and administrative documents. Responsibilities include coordinating patient case correspondence materials for sending out for consultation. Responsibilities may include: ordering tests and stains for cases, answering phones, and assisting callers with patient report, adding stains to a current case, change of patient demographics, or providing related follow through. Participation in process improvement, which includes data collection, coordinating case conference materials, and maintaining consultant calendar as appropriate. Required to follow work unit standard operating procedures, along with reviewing and ensuring accuracy of procedures. Routinely serves as a resource and mentor to others by training, educating and mentoring both new and existing members of the work unit, and trouble-shooting and resolving problems as appropriate.


Qualifications


Required Minimum Education: High School Diploma or equivalent required. Formal medical transcribing training preferred. Associate's degree preferred.

Required Minimum Experience: Six months transcription experience in medical setting required, with pathology experience highly preferred. Knowledge of Pathology Information System billing, and Tumor Conference preparation (all genres). Pathologist's Peer Review and CAP Anatomical Tumor Forms preferred as appropriate.

Required Minimum Skills : Computer skills and medical terminology with pathology specialty preferred. Demonstrates initiative, proficiency and good judgment to optimize the use of other allied healthcare providers' time. Highly organized, efficient, and multi-functional, with ability to work independently, as well as in a team. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Excellent customer service skills. **The role you'll contribute:** The Pathology Transcriptionist III performs transcription activities in support of the pathologists, pathologists' assistant, and pathology department; as well as including some clerical and/or related secretarial duties. The position requires exercise of judgement under supervision. Work involves theoretical and/or practical knowledge in various medical and laboratory operations and support functions, as well as general office support activities. Adheres to the Corporate Compliance Plan and to all rules and regulations of all applicable local, state and federal agencies and accrediting bodies. Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all.

+ Performs accurate transcription of recorded medical dictation into designated report format, as needed to support Pathologists, Pathologists' Assistants and selected individual laboratory departments

+ Performs assigned activities related to the department including inventory control, general equipment and space maintenance, receptionist/clerical tasks which may include general word processing (typing), filing, distribution of interoffice memos, mail, scanning, and faxing

+ Supports cross departmental partnerships and communication amongst Pathologists, Pathologists' Assistants, hospital staff and clients taking immediate steps to correct, follow through and report any mistakes or errors to department manager

+ Provides resolution to customer service issues within guidelines

+ Attends and participates in scheduled department and committee meetings as assigned

+ Performs other duties as assigned

**Qualifications**

**The expertise and experiences you'll need to succeed:**

**REQUIRED:**

+ Registered or Certified medical transcriptionist accredited through the Association for Health Documentation Integrity (AHDI) OR Certified medical transcriptionist accredited through the American Association for Medical Transcription OR American Health Information Management Association

+ Five years of experience in medical dictation transcription

+ Medical Terminology training

+ High School Diploma or GED

**PREFERRED:**

+ Experience with Clinical and Anatomical Laboratory Processes
