Job Description

The Patient Access Representative accurately and promptly collects all pertinent information at the initial point of registration to ensure the proper billing process occurs which will enhance timely cash flow and reduce the days in accounts receivable.

Additional Requirements

High School Diploma or equivalent required. Medical Terminology and knowledge of insurances. Minimum of 2 yrs of experience as a Patient Access Representative. Collects current medical symptoms and inputs into hospital information system. Collects demographic and financial information for input into information system and copies ID and insurance cards. Completes uncompensated check sheet to comply with Federal and State Regulations. Greets patients, visitors and all who require registration, in a timely, courteous manner and assists as necessary. Initiates uncompensated care data sheets. Notifies all participating departments of regulations when necessary. Obtains Advance Medical Directive information-patient specific. Review all work for accuracy and compliance with State & Federal regulations. Rotates to other positions to meet the needs of the department. Secures deposits where required. Sees that patients are cared for with a minimum of wait time. Separates and files all registrations; reviews department specific reports for accuracy. Successfully completes certification programs for competency and skill in current job role. Performs all other duties as assigned.

Provide vigilant and continuous 1:1 supervision and appropriate diversional activities for an assigned patient under the supervision and direction of the Registered Nurse. Under the direction of the unit charge nurse, performs duties necessary to ensure smooth day to day operations of the assigned nursing unit when not directed to provide continuous patient observation.
Job Responsibilities

* Be respectful of patient, family, concerning privacy and confidentiality of patient's medical needs.
* Remain with patient at all time and continuously monitor the welfare of patients who cannot be left alone because they may be at risk of injury or may be combative, agitated or may endanger themselves.
* Performs patient care tasks related to activities of daily living such as bathing, feeding, hair, skin, and oral care.
* Assists RN and/or Clinical Tech with linen changes and repositioning as directed by the RN.

* Continuously observes patient for significant changes in behavior or movement and accurately reports them in a timely manner directly to the RN taking care of the patient.
* Assists Registered Nurse with the accurate measurement and reporting of intake and output.
* Maintains complete, accurate and legible patient care documentation as required by hospital and/or system policy.

Shift: Day Shift (6pm - 6.30am)

Schedule: Days vary

Requirements:

Experience: Dealing directly with customers and/or patients.

Education: High School Diploma or GED

Special Skills: Ability to communicate clearly in English, both written and oral. Ability to legibly document on legal patient care record.

Department Description:
The Windham Hospital Emergency Department is open 24/7 to provide care to patients of all ages in a safe, patient-focused environment. The team consists of nurses, physician assistants, APRNs, physicians, patient care technicians and paramedics trained to handle any type of emergency. In addition to the Emergency Department, the Patient Access Department works jointly with such Windham Hospital outpatient departments such as Ambulatory Care Unit, Cardiac Diagnostic Center, Diabetes Education, Diagnostic Imaging (Radiology), One Day Surgery, Pain Management, Pulmonary Laboratory, Women's Health Services and the Wound Care Center.

Position Summary:

Registers/Admit patients; Obtains, validates and inputs patient demographics and financial information; Obtains co-pays and deductibles.
Obtain insurance authorization for inpatient/outpatient visits and/or procedures.
Verifies insurance payer information and eligibility benefits; Provides assistance with financial applications.
Ability to handle and close out cash transactions for bank deposit.
Obtains accurate information and signatures on releases/forms; Scanning
Prioritizes patient flow; Constant interaction with patients, families, payers and clinical staff in all areas of the Hospital including outpatient clinics.
Hospital Operator coverage; Work various reports as assigned.
Attention to detail; multi-tasking; strong communication skills; easily adapts to change.

Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent required
Education / Experience required.
