Checks all residents frequently and at least every 2 hours assuring the resident is repositioned, turned, toileted, clean, safe, etc. Provides intervention as needed to provide a safe clean environment. Checks each resident who is being physically restrained releasing the restraint and assisting the resident to toilet at least every 2 hours. Checks all residents daily for condition of skin, reporting findings to Licensed Staff assigned to unit. Assists licensed staff when needed to position residents in need of treatments. Keeps hand rolls and positioning devices in place as needed and as indicated for each resident. Assists residents to bed for naps or night sleep as needed. Provides a quiet restful and safe atmosphere when residents are resting. Takes and records vital parameters as assigned. Assists with weekly and monthly weights as assigned. Cleans and properly arranges all bedroom furniture to include keeping the residents orderly, clean, and following infection control guidelines. Assists the residents in keeping closets clean, clothing clean and in good repair, marked with their name, etc. Assists residents to keep bathrooms clean, following infection control and privacy practices. Changes resident's bed clothing to assure the bedding is clean, not wrinkled, and promotes good hygiene and care practices. Follows appropriate infection control practices in working with the residents and equipment. Keeps accurate records of intake and outputs and procedures throughout the shift for those residents who require such. Records information on the Nursing Care Records timely. Keeps Licensed Staff informed of pertinent information timely. Writes pertinent information on the Group Assignment Sheet and Communication Books. Job DescriptionSalary: The Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) or Mental Health Technician (MHT) is a member of the nursing staff who facilitates quality patient care. The CNA or MHT supports the licensed nursing staff to ensure the needs of the patients are met by performing routinely assigned tasks and carrying out patient care activities within the scope of the CNAs or MHT's training and experience. The CNA or MHT provides direct patient care to assigned patients, ensuring that patients' activities of daily living are performed. They are primarily responsible for the day-to-day custodial care of the patients. The CNA or MHT assists with providing a therapeutic, safe environment for the patients. The CNA or MHT utilizes basic knowledge of nursing skills and communicates the medical and emotional needs of the patients to the licensed nursing staff. The CNA or MHT is the visible presence of the nursing staff on the unit and is readily available to the patients for day-to-day needs. In addition, they perform assigned duties and interventions as directed by the licensed nurse to fulfill the prescribed orders of the medical staff. The CNA or MHT communicates observations of the patients to the licensed nursing staff. Additional responsibilities include but are not limited to assisting with the overall day-to-day functioning of the program, including aiding other staff in patient chart production, providing meals, answering telephones, and supervising patients during staff break periods. Qualifications: High School Diploma preferred and additional schooling in psychiatric related areas is a plus. One year experience working with patients in the inpatient hospital setting is preferred. Physical strength and agility to assist patients with agitation and disruptive behavior. Requires mental alertness and the ability to think critically and react in critical situations. Must be able to read, write and speak English.
