To provide technical assistance and supportive patient care to meet the needs of individual patients throughout assigned areas.
MAJOR DUTIES / CRITICAL TASKS:
· Collects, reports, and documents data. Takes vital signs, height and weight, intake and output, pulse oximetry, and collects specimens.
· Obtains blood samples by venipuncture.
· Acquires 12 lead EKG.
· Performs and reports POCT.
· Assists with patient activities and care as assigned by the charge nurse/designee as indicated by the patient's plan of care.
· Provides for patients' personal hygiene. Bathes patients, performs oral suctioning, superficial wound care, assists with elimination, and cares for the incontinent patient and the patient with a urinary catheter. Assists or gives cleansing enemas, sitz baths, non-sterile douches, and provides ostomy care.
· Assists with feeding.
· Ambulates, positions, and turns patients and cares for the patient with altered mobility.
· Assists with the admission, transfer, and discharge of the patient.
· Assists the healthcare team by preparing patients and chaperoning during examinations/procedures or assists with other patient treatments.
· Provides for patient safety related to age and condition.
· Assists with patient restraints and maintains patient-specific safety precautions.
· Collects, reports, and documents data related to patient needs/emergencies and unusual patient and family behavior.
· Cares for the patient from a correctional environment
· Maintains patient privacy and confidentiality of information and health records at all times.
· Provides and maintains a clean, safe environment and performs and/or assists others to perform proper aseptic technique, isolation procedures, and infection control measures.
· Maintains patient care areas with appropriate supplies.
· Assists with patient requests for other hospital services.
Marginal or Periodic Functions\:
· Video monitoring duties as assigned.
· Adheres to internal controls and reporting structure.
· Performs related duties as required.

REQUIRED EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:
· High school diploma or equivalent
· One (1) year of experience in a direct patient care environment within the last two years AND completion of one (1) of the following technical programs\:
o Completion of a recognized Nurse Assistant (CNA) program with current/active certification through the Texas Department of Health and Human Services OR
o Completion of Medical Corpsman program OR
o Completion of EMT program with a current EMT license
· Must have current BLS certification issued thru American Heart Association.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT/EQUIPMENT:
Standard Hospital Environment. Uses standard patient care supplies, equipment and mechanical devices.
