Overview
The Patient Care Specialist, under the supervision of Manager, Operations & Compliance, assists in the various activities of the pharmacy operations not requiring the professional judgment of the pharmacist. The Patient Care Specialist is primarily responsible for incoming and outgoing calls from customers regarding drug delivery, set-up and all related services.

Qualifications
High School diploma or GED required.One (1) year of experience working in a high volume pharmacy, or equivalent setting, required, or six (6) months as a temporary associate in the Patient Care Specialist role or Reliance Operations & Compliance department. National Pharmacy Technician Certification (CPhT) preferred.Experience working with on line claims processing system preferred.Effective oral and written communication skills and an aptitude for working with other health care professionals.Ability to lift a minimum of 5lbs.Proven examples of displaying the Reliance values: Collaborative, Accessible, Results-Oriented, Empowering, and Supportive.

Essential Accountabilities
A patient care specialist through incoming and outgoing calls answers patient inquiries about billing, procedures, policies and available services.Act as a liaison between patients and insurance companies, and facilitate communication between patients and doctors, medical staff and administrative staff.Maintain patient records; filing, documentation duties Set up, data entry.Packaging and shipping.Financial arrangements, collecting co-payments.Coordination of benefits.Financial assistance coordination.Prior Authorization assistance with offices.Billing.Work as a team member within the patient services department and all other departments to promote information sharing and continuous process improvement.Specialists must function in strict accordance with standard, written procedures and guidelines with deviation approved by the supervising pharmacist.
