The Surgical Technologist Certified functions under the direction of the registered professional nurse. Assists the health care team in providing safe, age appropriate and culturally aware patientcare. He/she has knowledge, skill and ability to perform duties within the context of moderate to high acuity surgical cases (with an expectation on occasion to work above this level as cases require) as defined by the scope of anatomy, equipment and instrumentation of the case and anticipates the needs of the surgeon and other members of the healthcare team. Exhibits an acquisition of additional surgical skills for progressively more difficult cases. Demonstrates an efficient, organized surgical plan for assigned cases. Takes initiative to discuss surgical plan with other members of the healthcare team. Able to troubleshoot instruments and equipment. Anticipates any additional supplies or equipment required for procedures. Ability to mentor, precept or train in various modalities. Participates in performance improvement initiatives. Duties include, but are not limited to, preparation of the operative suite and surgical field to ensure a safe patientcare environment while being vigilant for the maintenance of the sterile field and other patient safety concerns. In addition, they will gather required instruments, supplies and serve as surgical assistant as needed. (not to be confused with a certified surgical first assistant). Other duties as assigned including but not limited to assisting with inventory, ordering and stocking ORs and additional perioperative areas as assigned. Also, ensure that the unit is compliant with Joint Commission standards at all times. Call or late coverage may be required related to the facility in which the ST is working.
DEFINITION:
Certified Surgical Technologist required to have a certificate or associate's degree from a community college or a technical school and have passed the a competency examination through the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting or National Center for Competency Testing

- Sets up sterile table with instruments, supplies, equipment, and medication/solutions needed for procedure in an accurate, aseptically prioritized, and timely manner, including reviewing and utilizing appropriate preference cards
- Performs appropriate surgical counts with circulator.
- Actively participates in the procedure pause/time-out.
- Scrubs, gowns, and gloves; Gowns and gloves surgeon and assistants.
- Assists in draping sterile field.
- Passes instruments to surgeon during the procedure. Maintains an organized back table and operative field. Able to anticipate and offer surgeon suggestions throughout the procedure for facilitating cases
- Maintains highest standard of sterile technique during procedure.
- Prepares sterile dressings.
- Actively participates in post procedure pause which includes accounting for proper handling of the specimens.
- Cleans and prepares instruments for terminal sterilization, taking initiative to inform SPD of critical need instrument
- Applies principles of asepsis to ensure the prevention of infection and safety of patients and employees
- Prepares case carts according to procedure and preference cards. Reviews surgical schedule and assists clinical coordinator with preparation for future cases
- Observes patients condition and immediately reports any changes or significant findings to the physician and Registered Nurse.
- Proactively plans for the next steps in the progression of procedure as needed, demonstrating an ability to adjust without faltering when an emergency arises
- Performs with the knowledge, skill, and ability within the context of moderate to high acuity surgical cases
- Prepares OR room and other areas (as needed) for receiving patients, which includes stocking, cleaning equipment or storage areas, turns OR room over, orders/requests supplies, preparing instruments for future procedures, notification of specialty staff regarding needed instrumentation or equipment.

Note you will have exposure to blood, needles, and various other bodily fluids.
This position provides direct patientcare that regularly involves heavy lifting, moving of patients, and assisting with ambulation.
PCT will spend considerable time walking, bending, stretching, and standing.
The employee may occasionally be required to move machines, equipment, and may lift chemical and water solutions of up to 30 pounds and high as five feet.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties:
Assess research participants' current psychosocial needs and identify the case management needs.
Assisting clients with discharge planning as needed.
Set key goals to be accomplished with the research participants during their inpatient stay by working with each client to identify and prioritize needs and assisting with needs as relevant.
Completing Discharge Summaries for client discharging from the CRU (Clinical Research Unit). Ensuring that all information, medications, follow-up appointments are accurate, and informing treatment providers, care providers, family, referral sources of discharge.
Coordinating transportation for discharge, appointments off unit (visit to SSI office, interview for housing), doctor appointments and ensuring all calendars are updated with necessary information.
Assisting clients with other miscellaneous needs while on the unit (paying rent, paying bills, checking in with probation officers, purchasing items to maintain ADLs, obtaining clothes from shelters etc.)
Coordinating, supervising and documenting family meetings, case manager visits to the CRU.
Assisting with completion of applications for healthcare coverage, social security and food stamps.
Develop relationships with the representatives in other agencies to support research participants in attaining services such as housing, additional mental health care, medication, medical resources, financial assistance, legal advocacy, or other as needed.
Develop and manage weekly groups with inpatient clients focusing on psychosocial needs.
Updating database upon discharge from CRU and/or study termination to ensure all information about subject (i.e disposition, medication, insurance, etc) is accurate and current.

Some units with Team Nursing Model - 8 patient to 1 RN + 1 LPN + 1 PCT

Will care for COVID + patients and may be floated to all campuses within hospital system if needed. (4 campuses: Gainesville, Braselton, Barrow, Lumpkin)
Vital signs, Blood sugars using glucometer, document in the EMR EPIC system work with primary nurse to provide assists with feeding, toileting, ambulating of patients on inpatient units.

Job Summary
A non-licensed, staff member who is trained to be flexible in a variety of nursing support and transport duties. Replaces glove boxes and disinfectant wipes in patient rooms.
Prepares room for new admissions. (make sure PPE is stocked, bed is turned down and any appropriate supplies or equipment is available for the incoming patient.
