Statement of Purpose The Behavioral Health Technician fulfills the assigned role as a part of the treatment team, maintaining the well-being of clients and integrity of the program. Provides client supervision and staff/unit support as assigned. Major Tasks, Duties and Responsibilities
Completes admission procedures on new clients including tech paperwork, room assignments, and initial orientation.
Conducts property searches of clients as required by program standards.
Performs urine drug screen testing of clients as required.
Performs medication call supervision as required.
Provides transportation services including patient transportation, donation pick-ups, agency errands, etc.
Attending in-service training and educational workshops.
Attending all required staff meetings.
Knowledge of mental health, drug and alcohol abuse, family systems and various recovery resources in the community such as Smart Recovery and others.
Develop and maintain individualized records of client progress (shift notes) and participation in treatment including admission and discharge, individual sessions, group facilitation, family, vocational (both individual and group) literacy training and other occasions as appropriate. The technician will not be doing any treatment planning or counseling services unless registered to do so. The tech will have restricted EHR access.
Ability to write clear (and concise) statements, summarizing client's feelings, expressions, resistance and response to their treatment plan, goals, and objectives. Includes letters to referral agencies, courts/probation.
Ability to confront behavioral changes, identify a crisis, and recognize when additional assistance is necessary.
Ability to recognize personal recovery issues that impact job performance and client interactions.
Fully understands and maintains policies regarding professional ethics, including appropriate boundaries and patient confidentiality.
Ability to demonstrate respect for cultural and lifestyle diversities of clients and staff.
Basic knowledge of referrals, both in and out of the program.
Working knowledge of Smart Recovery and 12-step program (if the client would like the 12-step program.
Ability to communicate clearly with clients, staff, peers, supervisors, and non-company resources.

The Mental Health Technician is responsible for establishing a therapeutic relationship with patients and facilitates the maintenance of a therapeutic environment by providing supportive services to individuals with mental health challenges in a 24-hour clinic and residential setting. This position will also document services provided in the resident's electronic health record and facility log, provide crisis intervention services as needed, provide transportation of residents, and maintain the upkeep & operations of facilities.
Responsibilities:

All direct care staff shall have graduated from high school or possess a GED and have a minimum of one (1) year of full-time experience, or its part-time equivalent, working in a program serving persons with mental disabilities. Such experience must be in the direct provision of services to clients. If the employee does not have the required experience, the program shall document a specific plan of supervision and in-service training for the employee which will guarantee the ongoing qualification of the employee to perform the job. The plan should include but not be limited to the frequency and number of hours of training, the subjects to be covered, and a description of the supervision to be provided.
Physical Requirements/Work Environment:
Work is primarily sedentary in nature, occasionally lifting 30 or more pounds and must be able to lift up to 50 pounds (ie. luggage). Must be able to walk, stoop, sit, stand, climb, stretch, reach, and possess finger/dexterity. Must be able to walk and work standing on feet up to 75% of the day. Must have a level of mobility necessary to meet patients' needs.Quality of hearing (whether natural or with accommodation) must be acceptable due to frequent phone conversations with business representatives, potential clients, and families. They must exhibit the ability to display coping skills to handle multiple calls and duties. The risk of exposure to unpredictable situations (i.e., client behavior) exists.

Applies EKG leads to patients and sets up monitors, performs basic and 12 lead EKG's when the EKG technician is not available and follows Cardiology Department procedure to file and record EKG. Provides RN with EKG printout immediately.
Assists the MD or RN to apply skin traction (bucks, bryant, cervical, pelvic, balanced suspension) according to MD orders: Sets up traction bars, orthopedic devices and trapezes per MD orders: Arm sling, Cervical collar, Braces, Immobilizers, CPM, Hot ice machine, Sequential stockings, Abduction pillows. Assists with cast removal when Ortho tech is not on duty.
Documents accurately on I and O sheets all intake and output for assigned shift, including gomco, suction, hemovac, T-tubes and foley outputs, NG Tubes, colostomy and rectal bag drainage.
Reports any problems with equipment to the house supervisor. Assists the house supervisor/nurse manager when families wish to view bodies: removes body from morgue and places in the viewing room. Ensures that the area is clean and prepared for the family. Ensures linen on the patient is clean. Prepares the body to be viewed, eg open shroud, adjust lighting.
Provides break coverage for unit secretaries or other PCT's and comparable positions
Assists with transfers ensuring secure and complete transfer: collects personal belongings, assists patient to wheelchair/gurney, accompanies patient to new room, provides patient with call light
Transports deceased patients to the morgue: identifies the body per policy.
Activates and participates in emergency response situations as directed by policy.

The successful candidate will facilitate clients through their day and evening programming schedules in a detox/residential substance abuse treatment setting. This position is ideal for individuals seeking extra shifts, part-time work, or those looking to transition into a full-time role when available. On-call and weekend opportunities are also available.
Qualifications
Experience in a residential detox setting
Registration with CCAPP, CAADE, or CADTP (Mandatory)
Knowledge of COWS and CIWA assessments and detox medication procedures preferred
Strong understanding of recovery and 12-step programs
Desire to help individuals change their lives
Excellent communication skills
Ability to take direction and follow through on assigned tasks
Willingness to learn and grow both personally and professionally
Valid driver's license with a clean driving record (mandatory)
Must be able to pass background and drug screen.
Responsibilities
Observe, count, and document medication in KIPU
Conduct and document client rounds/observations
Complete new admission intake procedures according to program policies, including UA, belongings searches, and paperwork
Work directly with the Program Director to ensure clients are stable, comfortable, and progressing through their detox appropriately
Compose shift notes
Clean up the house after clients retire for the evening
Clean rooms after client discharges
Perform other tasks as assigned
