    Full-time, Evening shift, 2:45 PM - 11:15 PM, with call and rotation AFSCME - Union Purpose: Functions as a member of the operating room or surgery center nursing team providing direct care to the surgical patient and performing other related duties under the direction of the registered nurse. Responsibilities: Utilizes hospital policy to meet JCAHO requirements. Assists surgeon as scrub technician according to prescribed standards. Scrubs and dones gown and gloves by performance standards. Maintains proper traffic control in the Operating Room Suite. Maintains use and cleanliness of autoclaves by following directions for use and cleaning. Maintains correct count of sponges, instruments, and needles with the circulating nurse and reports correctness or discrepancies according to department policy. Maintains aseptic technique at all times. Observes patients and is ready for emergencies. Knows where all supplies are kept and can get or put them away accordingly. Assists in handling specimens as directed. Assists in the application of dressing, casts, and in moving of patient as directed. Assists in cleaning the room, furniture, supplies, and equipment after a procedure. Assists in the workroom cleaning, storage, packing, and autoclaving of instruments. Employee complies with established occupation exposure policy. Set up tables, instruments, and supplies according to the type of operation. Assists in preparation and draping of patient and operative area according to need. Anticipates the need for instruments, sutures, sponges, etc. PA legislature House Bill 81 was enacted on 10/29/2020 and became effective on 12/27/2020. Must have completed a program sponsored by nationally recognized institutional or programmatic accreditation and maintains certification or Has completed an appropriate military training program or Maintains certification from an accredited program or Was employed as a surg tech in a health care facility on or before the effective date of the act (12/27/2020) or Employed as a surg tech at another health care facility two years before the effective date (12/27/2020). Exception: A healthcare facility may employ individuals who do not meet the certification requirements if after a diligent and thorough effort has been made they are unable to employ a sufficient number of qualified surg techs who meet the requirements (i.e. certification) and a written record of efforts is made and retained at the health care facility. 1. Continuing education requirements: Compliance with continuing education requirements specified by the credentialing organization for certification. New graduates of a program sponsored by nationally recognized institutional or programmatic accreditation can work for six months before certification but must be certified within six months of program completion.     The primary functions of a Behavioral Health Technician (BHT) are intended to facilitate the development of social competencies and the overall emotional development of children, youth, and young adults ages 3-21. The goal is to help the child achieve maximum overall functioning, while preventing the need for out of the home or alternative school placement. BHT services are provided to children diagnosed with a psychiatric condition and who present with significant social, emotional, developmental or behavioral problems. BHT services will be provided in an individualized manner, focusing on the child's strengths. A primary goal of the service is to build competencies that will allow the child to become more successful in their social, family and community settings. It will also be a goal to develop meaningful connections within the community in an effort to build resiliency and relationships that may have long term benefit to the child. The interventions provided by the BHT may be in the form of therapeutic, supportive and competency/skill building and vary in method/modalities. These services will take place within various settings, including in the home, community or school settings. These services will take an eco-systemic approach to establish collaborative relationships with the family and within the community and utilize all possible resources for the benefit of the child and family. The BHT will also work with all individuals to transfer skills and strategies learned back to the parents or other guardians. Reports To: Program Director. Duties/Responsibilities: • Demonstrate the ability to engage families in the treatment process through the use of reflective listening, collaboration, empathy and consideration of cultural, ethnic, and religious beliefs. Initial focus should be on building a therapeutic relationship in hope of engaging client and effect beneficial change • Contribute to the ongoing development of the child's individual treatment plan and crisis plan by communicating to the Behavior Consultant/Mobile Therapist any strengths, coping skills and protective factors that will enhance the effectiveness of treatment • Use strength-based approaches and a positive attitude in dealing with the child and family • Provide effective one-on-one interventions with the child/family in all identified settings noted in the treatment plan. If interventions are not effective, BHT will communicate this to the Behavior Consultant/Mobile Therapist and seek consultation • Show initiative by using their own ideas and working in conjunction with the Behavior Consultant/Mobile Therapist in developing therapeutic activities to be used with child and family in treatment • Demonstrate the ability to teach child and family specific skills and competency development. This will be evidenced by willingness and comfortability in engaging the child and family in specific activities, therapeutic interventions and community-based activities • Engage child/family in community activities and programs if indicated in the treatment plan. This includes exploring appropriate community activities available and communicating with the Behavior Consultant/Mobile Therapist and family • Engage the child in specific interventions from the treatment plan during each session • Request assistance in the implementation of therapeutic interventions, if unclear • Engage parents or other extended family members in interventions with the child to transfer skills and foster positive child/parent relations • Work in a team relationship with the Behavior Consultant/Mobile Therapist or other treatment providers in an effort to provide a highly collaborative treatment system. This will be evidenced by communicating on a regular basis with Behavior Consultant/Mobile Therapist the successes and failures of interventions, participating in supervision and being available for regular consultation • Respect the rules and policies of the institutions where the treatment will be delivered (this includes schools, daycares, community programs and the family home) • Build a positive and collaborative relationship with the teachers and appropriate staff in the schools and programs where they are providing service • Engage teachers or other appropriate staff in interventions in order to transfer skills • Utilize the input of teachers, principals, and other appropriate staff in the schools and programs where they are providing services and communicate this to the Behavior Consultant/Mobile Therapist • Collect data as requested in the treatment plan BHT will communicate with the Behavior Consultant/Mobile Therapist to ensure they are collecting the most appropriate data in a meaningful way • Attend and participate in all required supervision sessions • Attend and participate in all required training sessions in order to meet state guidelines • Complete a daily progress report for each encounter with the child and turn in all completed paperwork within the timeframes required by ACRP • Maintain high quality records sufficient to meet State and MCO clinical documentation requirements that include all funding sources Progress notes and Encounter forms must be complete and turned in by Mondays at 9:00am, including holidays Billing should be reviewed prior to being turned in to director to ensure that records are accurate • May be required to transport the child and family when appropriate and approved by supervisor BHT will have the necessary insurance coverage and keep up to date with submitting that info to HR for their employee file • Adhere to the policies and standards set forth by ACRP and the employee handbook • Ensure they receive all agency communication by checking their email at least twice per day and responding to all forms of communication in a timely manner • Practice appropriate utilization of services as per the written order for each child • Maintain all scheduled appointments with the family and child • Complete required reports to Childline and other agencies involved, as necessary • Work in collaboration with Program Director, Clinical Supervisor, Administrative Staff and Quality Assurance Director to assist in the process of monitoring quality assurance and other protocols necessary to effectively manage programmatic aspects Minimum Job Requirements: Education/Experience: • Provision of behavioral health services: 2 years (required) • Have a certification as a BCA, BA, or; • Have a certification as a RBT, or; • Have a certification as a BCAT, or; • Have a behavior health certification or behavior analysis certification, or; • Have a high school diploma or the equivalent of a high school diploma and have completed a 40-hour training covering the RBT Task List as evidenced by a certification that includes the name of the responsible trainer, who is certified as a BCBA, or; BCABA Required Skills and Abilities: • Communication Skills transmits information clearly, in writing and/or verbally; clearly and consistently communicates with clients, supervisors, and families • Customer Service Skills always puts the client first • Problem Solving Skills demonstrates sound judgement and decision-making • Organizational Skills uses an organized approach to job responsibilities • Active Listening Skills consistently uses good active listening skills • Professionalism acts with professionalism and integrity in all work environments • Initiative takes initiative and is proactive • Responsive attentive/responsive to needs of internal and/or external clients • Ability to clearly communicate, both written and verbally • Ability to follow and maintain confidentiality and safety policies Required Clearances: • Act 31, 33/34 clearances • Valid PA Motor Vehicle Operator's license • All necessary child abuse clearances (PA Criminal Record Check, PA Abuse Clearance, and Federal Criminal History Clearance) Physical Requirements: • Regularly required to sit or stand, reach, bend and move about the facility • The ability to carry out proper restraints to prevent client from harming themselves or others. Specialty Functions Works collaboratively with the Emergency Department and Behavioral Health treatment team to affect an effective comprehensive crisis solution. Communicates pertinent information of actual/potential problems to the professional staff. Communicates pertinent information at shift reports and during internal and external transfers. Consults with the Psychiatrist all clinical screening and assessment information after completion of the clinical interview of the patient and/or family in the Emergency Department. Consults with the Psychiatrist and Charge Nurse about incoming bed search requests. Conducts bed searches to facilitate patient transfers to other Behavioral Health Inpatient facilities. Consults with Psychiatrist and Emergency Department Physician on the need for admission to a higher level of care. Assists in development of the treatment plans and caring plans for patients being discharged from the Emergency Department. Conducts groups on the unit when available. Completes Positive Coping Plans for patients who are being discharged to home on the Acute Medical floors following Psychiatric consultations for suicide risk. Provides for patient safety in compliance with hospital and nursing department policies. Utilizes two forms of patient identification before implementing any form of patient care. Assumes appropriate code team role during code situations or mock codes. Responds effectively during emergency situations, including internal and external disasters. Assists in maintaining a safe and clean environment for patients, visitors and staff. Supports limited use of restraints in accordance with established standards and documents according to policies. Oversees that sufficient and proper supplies are maintained on an assigned unit. Monitors sterile supplies for expiration date and replaces as needed. Distributes and maintains a sufficient supply of linens in assigned patient care areas. Replenishes daily/weekly unit stock from appropriate departments, i.e., CSR, storeroom. Cleans supplies and unit-maintained equipment. Checks patient belongings for contraband and logs in on Patient/Valuable/Belongings sheet. Performs patient observations per unit policy. Performs unit safety checks, including room checks, per unit policy. Understands and utilizes principles of non-violent crisis intervention. Observes patients for increase in agitation and reports to RN for early intervention. Assists as needed in handling, restraining and secluding agitated patients using the least restrictive means. Assists in establishing control of the patient who is awaiting disposition from the Emergency Department. Knows how to use panic button and how to call security for assistance as needed. Utilizes Crisis Intervention skills. Provides crisis intervention utilization prescribed departmental procedure and recognized best practice techniques. Documents services provided according to department and regulatory agencies. Obtains authorizations/reauthorizations for treatment. Completes activity logs as requested. Completes patient assessments and facilitates legal processes. Interviews patients/families/significant others at time of initial presentation to complete psychosocial history and assessment. Documents clinical activities within established time frames according to department, hospital and regulatory agency standards. In collaboration with guest and the service team, establishes appropriate recovery-based goals. Assists with educating patients and families on all issues related to crisis intervention and resolution. Consults with Excela Health System staff, when requested, on all issues and concerns related to the Mental Health Procedures Act Facilitates involuntary and voluntary commitments in the Emergency Room and on Acute Medical floors, with assistance from the County delegate as needed. Attends involuntary commitment hearings. May work under the direction of the Crisis Response Center Therapist or RN in order to communicate and coordinate patient care. Communicates effectively with patients/peers/families/treatment team/agencies. Attends at least 75% of staff meetings. Reads and signs off minutes of those not attended. Returns patient/family phone calls and documents. Provides peer/treatment team consultation when asked. Uses computer as required for email, scheduling, authorizations, insurance tracking. Etc. Collaborate with outside agencies to gather patient related clinical information to present to the Physicians and Nursing staff to formulate a plan of care, and act as a liaison. Required Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in Psychology or related field. Strong leadership ability, good organizational skills, independent and critical thinking skills, sound judgment, and knowledge of legal aspects and liability of nursing practice. Strong ability to communicate complex and/or controversial topics and concepts to a wide and diverse audience. Preferred Qualifications One (1) year mental health experience in a similar setting. License, Certification & Clearances Current Basic Life Support (BLS) approved curriculum of the American Heart Association (CPR and AED) program.
