Osawatomie State Hospital is licensed by the State of Kansas to provide care and treatment for adults diagnosed with psychiatric disorders regardless of ability to pay. There are currently two hospitals on the Osawatomie campus in Miami county: Osawatomie State Hospital (OSH) and Adair Acute Care (AAC). Adair Acute Care are a 60-bed facility, certified by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.
All employees are expected to work in a harmonious and cooperative fashion with other staff to provide efficient and effective customer service: to use free time as available to assist other staff in the completion of work assignments and perform other tasks as needed; to contribute to a positive work environment through a positive, helpful, courteous demeanor towards staff, customers and the general public; and to adhere to appropriate standards of conduct regarding the use of leave, reports to work on time and in the designated fashion.
The purpose of the MHDDT position is to provide basic care to patients to enable them to meet their daily living needs, i.e.: assist with personal and oral hygiene, care of clothing, room care and special incontinent patients. Encourage proper nutrition and other assistance as needed through observation and documentation of patient outcomes in the PatientCare System.
The essential functions of this position may require physical strength to frequently push, pull, twist, bend, squat, walk, stand for extended periods of time, lift and/or restrain residents with or without assistance and respond to aggressive resident behavior with specific, trained techniques. Be able to observe and respond to residents in distress.
Osawatomie State Hospital Adair Acute Care is funded in part by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services and is subject to requirements bestowed by Federal and State levels of government conditions of participation.
Position Summary & Responsibilities
Position Summary:
a) Work is performed under the supervision of a Registered Nurse who reviews and assesses work performance for adherence to hospital/nursing service policies and procedures (standard of care) as well as desired outcomes.
b) Work assignments as well as hospital and nursing service policies and procedures provide instructions. A Registered Nurse (RN) is available to provide clarification as needed.
c) Specific verbal and written work assignments are made daily for this position.
Job Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:
* Provide direct patientcare including assistance with daily living needs, hygiene, nutrition, and mobility
* Observe and report patient behavior, safety concerns, and medical symptoms to nursing staff
* Take vital signs and assist with patient admissions, orientations, and activities
* Support patient treatment and encourage participation in therapeutic programs and ward activities
* Maintain safety through routine checks, crisis intervention, and use of trained restraint techniques when necessary
* Ensure a clean, safe environment by following infection control, dress code, and hospital procedures
* Document patient progress, incidents, and treatment updates in medical records and shift reports
* Communicate effectively with patients, treatment teams, and other staff to support quality care
* Participate in required training (CPR, CPI, in-service education) and maintain ongoing competency
* Assist during emergencies, disasters, or staffing shortages as needed
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications: Must be at least 18 years of age.
Preferred Qualifications: High School Diploma or Equivalent, Valid Driver's License, and Previous Experience in direct care.

Desired Qualifications for this Role:
2+ years of medical experience in an outpatient medical clinic preferred.
Proficiency with Microsoft 365 tools, particularly SharePoint preferred.

This position may require light ground and/or air travel.
Physical Demands:
The physical demands described are representative of those that must be met by a Wound CareTechnician to successfully perform the essential competencies, duties, and requirements of this position. These include standing, walking, driving, lifting up to 50 pounds and sitting for extended periods of time and looking at a computer screen for extended periods of time. In addition, pushing, pulling, stooping, squatting and shifting heavy objects, as well as air travel, may be required. Employees should ask for assistance if needed.

Participates in the client's daily planning routine.
Supervisors, coaches, and mentors the client during meals, dressing and personal hygiene, monitors cleaning of room, chores, and life tactical skills.

Supervises clients during chapel services and serves as an adult role model.
On-call duties required as needed
Reports critical incidents to DCF verbally within 12 hours, written within 24 hours.
Reports unusual incidents through appropriate Risk Management, clinical and safety channels.
Implements Saint Francis Ministries policies and follows directives as required. Follows and adhere to all pertinent Saint Francis Ministries Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's), rules,personnel policies, and procedures; related accreditation and licensure standards; and federal, state, and local rules, statutes, regulations, and all contractual terms.
Ensures clients' rights are protected.
Is knowledgeable of and follows all safety procedures.
