The Patient Care Technician (PCT) is a trained member of the unit based team who supports the on-going delivery of care to assigned patients in the Coronary Care Unit (H4). This unit has a 24 bed capacity and cares for a variety of patients. Care for the trauma patient includes those who have had trauma related accidents, blunt or penetrating trauma, bone and joint injuries, spinal trauma, or traumatic brain injuries to name a few. Care for surgical patients includes those who have had solid organ transplants (liver and kidney), abdominal surgeries, and a variety of other surgical interventions that may require additional monitoring in an ICU. Care for the cardiovascular patients includes those who have had coronary artery bypass grafting, heart valve repair or replacement, thoracotomy, carotid endarterectomy, or a variety of vascular related interventions.

* High School Diploma/GED
* Successful completion of patient care technician course within 3 months of hire.
* Must have excellent communication skills, ability to follow oral instructions, basic computer skills, strong work ethics and accountability.

The Patient Care Technician (PCT) works under the direct supervision of the R.N. and performs tasks and duties which do not require a license, professional judgment or intervention. The PCT must pass the required competencies. The PCT works within the Department of Nursing standards. The PCT adheres to UAMS clinical programs, policies, procedures and standards and guest care guidelines.
* Obtains patient report and has on-going communication with R.N. regarding patient care/changes in condition; Informs nurse of patient requests or complaints.
* Assists with admission, transfer, and discharge of patients.
* Transports patients to other areas of the hospital as directed.
* Carries out the Plan of Care for Patient using a Multidisciplinary Approach as Delegated by Team Leader.
* Communicates effectively with other team members to facilitate patient care.
* Accepts directions from R.N.s and team members.
* Follows through on delegated patient care activities.
* Provides appropriate grooming/oral hygiene and comfort measures and assists patients with activities (ambulation, up in chair, turn and reposition).
* Documents all patient care activities/tasks, vital signs, ADL, wave tests, I&O's accurately and timely and per unit and department standards.
* Assists patients and visitors with information and/or solutions to problems.
* Serves as resources person to support department members in performance of duties.
* Notifies appropriate staff members of problems requiring prompt intervention.
May perform other duties as assigned.

The Patient Care Technician (PCT) performs patient care tasks and duties which do not require a license. The PCT is a trained member of the unit based team who supports the on-going delivery of care as identified by the multidisciplinary patient management team in H6 Hospital Medicine Unit. H6 Hospital Medicine Unit is a 30-bed medical/surgical patient care unit that provides 24 hour care to acutely ill patients as well as palliative care for specialty patients and hospice patients. H6 provides care to a wide variety of patients such as Liver Disease, End-Stage Renal Disease, Respiratory Conditions, Immune Systems Diseases, Gastro-Intestinal Disease, and Musculoskeletal/Integumentary Diseases. Remote telemetry is available for patients who are presenting with clinical cardiac concerns who present with a history of cardiac disease. We also provide pre/postoperative care as well. The patient population ranges from young adult to geriatric.

* High School Diploma/GED and successful completion of patient care technician course within 3 months of hire.
* Must have communication skills, ability to follow oral instructions, basic computer skills, strong work ethics, and accountability.

* High School Diploma/GED.
* Successful completion of PCT course within 3 months of hire.
* Successful completion of patient care technician course within 3 months of hire.
* Must have excellent communication skills, ability to follow oral instructions, basic computer skills, strong work ethics and accountability.
Preferred Qualifications:
* Certification as a nursing assistant or military corpsman.
* Patient care experience in acute/outpatient care setting.

Patient Care Technician Position Summary
Under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, performs basic patient care activities and unit support tasks to promote safe, efficient care and patient throughput. Provides assistance with activities of daily living and routine monitoring, maintains a clean and stocked environment, and supports nursing/physician staff.
Reports to the Director or Manager of Department.
FLSA: Non-Exempt.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Education: High School diploma preferred.
License: SRNA or EMT preferred.
Certifications: BCLS required; Handle with Care preferred.

Essential Functions

Responsibilities:
In this role, you will assist patients by escorting them to exam rooms and taking vital signs. You will document patient histories and chief complaints in our system, and prepare patients for various exams and procedures, including positioning and disinfecting treatment areas.
Your responsibilities will include supporting exams, performing visual acuities, and assisting with EKGs and other minor procedures. You will also conduct ear lavages, remove sutures or staples, and apply basic dressings. Additionally, you will handle specimen collection, run lab tests, and apply splints as needed.
Other duties include sterilizing equipment and supplies, preparing trays for procedures, and providing crutch training. Flexibility and a willingness to take on a variety of tasks are important as you help support our clinic's mission.
