Essential Functions
1. Provides consistently exceptional care at all times.
2. Observes and accurately interprets telemetry tracing, identifying abnormal rhythms, and immediately notifying appropriate licensed staff. Measures and documents heart rhythm pattern.
3. Monitors heart rhythm pattern of patients in special care unit of hospital to detect abnormal pattern variances, using telemetry equipment.
4. Reviews patient information to determine normal heart rhythm pattern, current pattern, and prior variances.
5. Informs supervisor or RN on duty of variances to initiate examination of patient.
6. Answers call lights via the nurse call system, supports other medical staff in provision of care
7. Performs routine clerical duties, prepares and manages patient medical record and respectful communication with patients, families and the healthcare team, using excellent interpersonal skills
8. Ability to adapt to a rapidly changing environment
9. Ability to quickly and appropriately prioritize tasks and manage interruptions

Receptionist/Patient Care Tech - Behavioral Health - Per Diem*
Patient care technician job in Gardnerville, NV
*IMPORTANT NOTE: In lieu of benefits due to "per diem" status, 15% will be added to the hourly rate. Per diem employees are offered work on an "as-needed" basis.
This position is accountable to perform clerical duties, act as a clinic/unit receptionist, and coordinate clinic/unit and patient activities both internally and externally via proper use of the computer and telephone. This position is responsible for maintaining an orderly and efficient reception station and waiting room area.
This position performs and coordinates a variety of functions relating to registration, admitting, and discharging. Duties may include, but not limited to, greeting all patients and visitors according to CVMC customer service standards, scheduling appointments, patient file maintenance/storage, obtaining insurance authorizations, and assisting with basic patient care activities and telemedicine.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Minimum Education:
High School education or equivalent.
Certificate Required:
BLS (Must obtain within the first 90 days of employment)
Minimum Work Experience:
Professional customer service skills.
Previous clerical/unit clerk experience.
Knowledge of basic medical terminology, proper grammar, and spelling.

POSITION ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Billing
Possess the knowledge of current policies and procedures.
Ability to communicate regarding all pertinent questions and answers related to the registration process, billing process, billing inquiries, and insurance authorization process.
Ability to utilize the EHR system to accept copays, verify insurance coverage, and/or update patient billing information.
Documentation
Maintain up-to-date and accurate documentation to ensure the integration of information for use by the healthcare team to ensure quality care.
Facilitate the proper documentation of the patient care system from pre-admission through discharge.
Scan all documents in a timely manner, as per medical records protocols.
Assist, as needed, with order entry, refill requests, pharmacy communication, and medication management needs for patients and document appropriately.
Document patient needs/concerns in a manner sufficient for clinicians and providers to have all necessary information in one snapshot.
Ability to maintain accuracy of information related to scheduling, patient care, patient communication, and all other pertinent documentation while meeting multiple demands of reception duties.
Computer Skills
Maintain computer skills needed for registering, verifying and authorizing patient accounts, completing referral authorization, and documenting all information related to patient care.
Review the department's record keeping system and recommends changes and/or updates as needed.
Ability to utilize EHR system effectively for all necessary job functions.
Patient Care
Check patients in using the EHR and have them sign necessary paperwork, consents, etc. at the time of their arrival.
Complete vital signs for patients.
Schedule initial and follow-up appointments accurately and according to department scheduling policies/procedures.
Maintain clinic forms (consents, assessments, fax cover sheets, registration forms, dietary forms, etc.) in a centralized location with the most updated forms readily available to all staff. Update forms as needed under direction from management. Maintain downtime forms so they are readily available when needed.
Facilitate medication refill requests, prior authorizations, communication with pharmacies, and any other needs of the providers related to patient care and medication management.
Ensure a clean, organized, and presentable patient care environment is maintained throughout the reception and waiting area, following all infection control/environment of care policies/procedures.
Assist with basic patient care duties as needed.
Communication
Answer and direct phone calls in a professional and respectful manner in regards to responding to client needs, transferring of calls, taking messages, or follow up and returning calls/voicemails.
Demonstrate professional phone etiquette with the ability to adequately determine and respond to client needs and communicate pertinent clinic or organization policies/procedures.
Daily professional and respectful communication with clinic staff for the purpose of scheduling, providing patient updates, and any other pertinent information.
Daily professional and respectful communication with all departments for the purpose of scheduling diagnostic tests and treatments, ordering diets, and requisitioning medical supplies as needed. Must be familiar with standard operating procedures in the ancillary departments to schedule diagnostic tests and treatments without conflict.
Daily professional and respectful communication with management, providers, therapists, nurses, visitors, and patients.
Daily professional and respectful communication with outside resources such as pharmacies, outpatient clinics, physician offices, home health organizations, and other resources/organizations as needed. Help arrange follow-up care, medication delivery, and tests as needed.
Provide any outside results, records, or updates to appropriate parties as approved by nurses or managers.
Referrals (Behavioral Health only)
Ability to facilitate insurance authorizations and verification for patient visits using online portals or phone calls and accurately enter information into the EHR system.
Maintain computer skills needed for completing referral authorization, entering referral information accurately into the system, and scheduling appointments using the correct referrals for accurate visit tracking.
Maintain access to online portals for insurance verification and authorization of services.
Communicate authorization information to the appropriate parties to ensure payment is processed without issue.
