PatientCareTechnician - Cardiology Unit, Providence Portland Medical Center in Portland, Oregon
This program is ideal for candidates who are looking to begin a career as a Certified Nursing Assistant. Providence will hire you as a PatientCare Tech. While in this role, we will pay for your coursework, and fees to become a CNA. We also pay you an hourly wage in your role as a PatientCare Tech, while attending the courses! You will earn to learn !
This is a full time position, requiring year-round availability. This posting represents a full time, night shift position. Every other weekend availability is required. If selected for this position, you will be required to attend a full time CNA training program for 3-4 weeks. When downtime occurs, you will be scheduled to work as a PatientCareTechnician to fulfill full-time work hours. We are NOT offering scheduling flexibility. Scheduling will be discussed at time of interview. You must have reliable transportation and reliable phone service (cell or land line).
After obtaining a CNA license, in exchange for Providence paying program tuition and fees, you will be required to transition into a full-time CNA position within Providence St. Vincent Medical Center and remain in that position for a minimum of one year. We provide 4 -6 weeks of orientation with an established Providence Portland Medical Center CNA or PCT with focus on the skills listed below:
PCT duties (after on-the-job training):
1:1 patient observation for suicide prevention, elopement, or prevention of medical device dislodgement
Hygiene care: bathing, brushing teeth, toileting, urinary and fecal incontinence care
Bladder scanning
Walking patients
Vital Signs (temperature, blood pressure, heart rate, respiratory rate, oxygen saturation measurements)
Assistant with feeding
Participate in Basic Life Saving (BLS) interventions
CNA Education:
You will be paired up with our CNA school liaison who will guide you through registering for CNA school, and signing up for your testing and licensing.
CNA duties (after licensing):
All of the above and:
Blood glucose monitoring
Removal of urinary catheter
Removal of peripheral IV catheter
Measure orthostatic blood pressures
Obtain specimens for testing (sputum, stool, urine)
Indwelling urinary catheter care
Apply compression stockings
Works closely with all members of the team to provide direct patientcare to optimize positive patientcare outcomes. Works independently and assists the registered nurse/nurse practitioner during clinic visits by providing the appropriate procedures.

This is a full time position, requiring year-round availability. This posting represents a full time, night shift position. Every other weekend availability is required. Your responsibilities as a Med Tech may include daily duties such as:
• Reviewing and understanding the unique service plan for every assigned resident each shift
• Assisting with bathing, dressing/undressing, and other activities of daily living
• Answering call lights as soon as possible to ensure safety of residents
• Escorting residents to and from apartments, activities, and dining rooms
• In our memory care setting, CNA's may prepare the dining room, take orders, and serve meals
• Taking and documenting vital statistics
• Performing medication assistance as directed by a licensed staff
The ideal candidate will be trustworthy and compassionate, and will:

• Possess a high school diploma or equivalent
• Have completed a state certified CNA or NAC course, with current certification in the state of Washington. Home Care Aide certificate is also acceptable, as it is current enrollment in a CNA training school
• Med Techs must have Nurse Delegation completed and experience as a caregiver and/or Med Tech
• Be willing to obtain a CPR/AED/First Aid Certification if you don't already have one
• Have a genuine interest in caring for elderly residents and working in a geriatric environment

The Oregon National Primate Center (ONPRC) is located 12 miles west of the OHSU main campus, and sits on 162 acres of land featuring forested areas, research and administration buildings, indoor and outdoor animal housing, and 2-mile perimeter walking path. Our mission is to improve human health and the quality of life through the support of nonhuman primate research programs that advance our knowledge of the causes, preventions, treatments, and cures of debilitating diseases
Function/Duties of Position
The Vet Research/Health Technician 1 assists in providing research support, clinical health care, and husbandry for a variety of non human primates. This is the first level of a three level series. It is distinguished from the higher levels by increased concentration on routine care and reduced responsibility for providing intermediate to complex animal care and procedures under specialized projects which require increased attention to research criteria. It is distinguished from the Lab Animal Technician series by the emphasis on research support and health care of animals.
Research Support Services
* Under supervision, performs technical skills in support of a variety of investigative needs including but not limited to phlebotomy or following fasting protocols.
* May communicate and interact with scientific staff to accomplish their needs.
* May assist with the management of and coordination of tasks to meet research needs.
Animal Health Care and Husbandry
* Evaluates new and ongoing clinical cases.
* Provides basic treatments within clinical guidelines or as determined by the Attending Veterinarian or their designees which may include but is not limited to medication administration or recovery from IV fluid therapy.
* Triages which cases may require immediate attention or complex individual or colony-level care, in addition to case management through routine practices including but not limited to clinical release weights.
* Prioritizes animal health assessment, such as DVM night checks, based on case evaluation of the reported clinical condition.
* Provides husbandry support for research animals.
General Maintenance
* Cleans and sanitizes animal care areas and equipment and operates mechanical washing equipment.
* Restock clinical supplies.
* Maintains sterility of surgical supplies and instruments through proper storage and rotation. Cleans and disinfects minor surgical and clinical supplies.
Observation and Records
* Checks animals daily for signs of abnormal behavior, illness, or injury.
* Records information necessary to support the research protocols and animal health.
* Reports observed health findings per standard reporting process.
* Records completion of daily required area-level care activities.
Other
* Drives department vehicles on campus.
* Assists in the loading and unloading of animals.
* Animal capture and care.
* Unloading and storing feed.
* Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
* High School diploma or GED.
* Six months of experience providing paid or voluntary care for animals.
* Valid driver's License.

Additional Details
Training schedule is typically 7:30am - 4:00pm, Monday - Friday. Normal work schedule is evening shifts 5 days per week including one weekend day. Evening shift length is 8 hours beginning at 12:30pm with the ability to work overtime as needed. Weekly work schedules established by DCM managerial staff, including voluntary and in-voluntary weekend and holiday work schedules.
Working Conditions
* Requires the ability to move unassisted through various animal housing areas located in several separate buildings, indoor and outdoor, (including covered areas that are not environmentally controlled), in order to make animal observations, perform animal care tasks, handle, move, or restrain animals, collect samples, administer treatments, and perform other procedures.
* Moving on wet and/or slick surfaces, through narrow corridors between rows of cages, and climbing stairs to corral observation platforms.
* Ability to work in areas where there is risk of exposure to zoonotic agents through injury, by direct contact with animals or their tissues and body fluids, or by contact with equipment contaminated by animals or their tissues and body fluids.
* Ability to work where there is risk of exposure to potentially hazardous chemicals and sanitizing chemicals.
* Schedule may include working inside an ABSL 3 facility.
Physical Demands
* Ability to drive DCM vehicles on and off campus as required.
* Ability to walk and stand for continuous hours a day.
* Ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 23 kg (50 lbs).

We are the Cardiovascular Intermediate Care Unit for OHSU. Our primary patient populations include post-open heart surgery (CABG, heart transplants, VAD, valve replacement, etc.), medical cardiology (ACS, NSTEMI/STEMI, heart failure, etc.) and pre- and post-op vascular surgery (PAD/PVD, vascular bypass, etc.). Our primary teams are Cardiothoracic Surgery, Vascular Surgery, and Cardiology, and we collaborate with PT/OT, Dietitians, Social Work, Case Management, Speech Therapists and other members of the multidisciplinary health care team to provide exceptional care for our patients. Our unit is a conceptually contiguous Cardiovascular Intermediate Care unit with 30 beds on 11KPV and 12 beds on OHS 7C. In addition, we maintain the organization's centralized telemetry monitoring program on 11K (providing remote telemetry monitoring for adult and pediatric acute care units at KPV, South Hospital, Center for Health and Healing (CHH) and Doernbecher Hospitals).
The 11K Monitor Technician (MT)-HUC is part of the health care team, providing support as the telemetry technician and Health Unit Coordinator. The MT assists nursing staff through constant observation of the telemetry monitoring system. The MT constantly observes hospital-wide telemetry, including rhythm and rate identification, documentation and immediate notification to nursing staff of any changes in the patient's telemetry pattern. On 11K, the MTs are cross-trained and serve as HUCs.
Function/Duties of Position
Telemetry Monitoring:
Constantly observes rhythms in the central telemetry monitoring system
Documents rhythm strips at start of every shift & PRN changes in rhythms
Directly communicates any rhythm changes to assigned RN or unit charge nurse
Cleans and stores telemetry monitoring equipment in accordance with OHSU policies
Accurately maintains patient information in Philips system
Notifies appropriate personnel of any telemetry equipment needs or maintenance issues
Completes required annual telemetry competency
Fulfills responsibility to the organization through performance that promotes Service Excellence
Performs within current applicable policies including standards of the PatientCare Services Division
Adheres to all aspects of the OHSU Code of Conduct
Reception Responsibilities:
Promotes and portrays a professional image and maintains positive guest relations when interacting, greeting, and providing information to staff, patients, family members, visitors, physicians and the general public
