Job Description

Registers patients, complete pre-registrations, verify benefits, obtain reports and enter all radiology orders. Secures patient account by obtaining appropriate demographic, insurance and medical information and enters into the STAR System. Strives to minimize patient wait time prior to patient arrival to the treatment areas improving customer satisfaction as it relates to the registration process and general communications. Performs all duties in a manner, which promotes team concepts and reflects RWJBarnabas Health philosophy.

Additional Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent. Customer service experience preferred. 1-2 years patient processing experience. Familiarity of Medical terminology preferred. Knowledge of McKesson STAR patient processing preferred. Type 30-40wpm. Knowledge of basic computer skills. Collects current medical symptoms and inputs into hospital information system. Collects demographic and financial information for input into information system and copies ID and insurance cards. Completes uncompensated check sheet to comply with Federal and State Regulations. Copies both front and back of patients healthcare ID cards.

Under the direction of the PAS manager, the Patient Access Representative is responsible for assisting patients during the on-site registration and arrival process for scheduled and unscheduled visits as well as completing financial clearance functions. This individual completes the registration for unscheduled visits by collecting accurate demographic information, insurance information, and collecting patient liability (if known) at the time of service. This individual is also responsible for financial clearance functions on assigned scheduled accounts during registration downtimes. In addition, this individual is responsible for miscellaneous client service activities including valuables collection and providing basic customer service. The Patient Access Representative greets and serves patients in a professional, friendly, and respectful manner to promote positive encounters.
Required qualifications:


3 years Healthcare experience within Patient Access of Business office setting.


Experience with insurance eligibility systems.


Preferred qualifications:


Associate's Degree in Healthcare or Business Administration.


5 years Registration experience.
