I'm a principal (shareholder) and the chief economist of a private investment management firm. We manage $115 billion, mostly in fixed-income assets on behalf of institutional clients. I am also a writer, editor, investor, public speaker and ocean swimmer.

On a daily basis, I try to figure out what’s going on in the world and explain it to others in a clear, concise and engaging manner. I believe that good explanations of how the world actually works (as opposed to how it is portrayed in textbook macroeconomic models or standard macroeconomic analysis) help yield better macroeconomic predictions--and better investment decisions.

I meet with our strategists, portfolio managers, clients, and attend our weekly Investment Policy Committee (IPC) meetings to provide explanations.

I help write and serve as editor of Payden's flagship quarterly publication, the Point of View, which goes out to 18,000 subscribers. Our goal with the Point of View is to cut through the typical jargon analysts hide behind and instead provide clear, concise \'points of view\' on key investment topics.

I give presentations on global macro and global financial markets to a wide variety of audiences in the US and abroad. Recent topics include: “Uber and the Future of the Global Economy,” “The Most Important Macro Question of 2014,” and “The Building Blocks of Long-Term Interest Rates\'.

I make appearances on financial television, including CNBC, Bloomberg, Fox Business Television and the BBC in London. I also appear on Bloomberg radio, National Public Radio and BBC radio in the UK.

I was the 34th ocean swimmer in history to complete solo swims across the English Channel, the Catalina Channel and around Manhattan. Together, these three swims comprise the \'Triple Crown of Ocean Swimming.\'
