Paz Oil company history timeline

1922

Paz was founded in 1922, as Anglo-Asiatic Petroleum.

1927

1927 – The company begins to operate under Shell worldwide and its owners change its name to Shell Palestine.

From 1927 it operated as part of Royal Dutch Shell, under the name Shell Palestine.

1958

1958 – Shell capitulates to the Arab boycott and through the mediation of then-finance minister Levi Eshkol the company's shares are acquired by the Israeli government and a British Jew named Isaac Wolfson.

1981

1981 – Isaac Wolfson sells his share in the company to the Israeli government.

1988

1988 – The state sells the company to Australian businessman Jack Lieberman and Paz becomes a private company.

1994

1994 – The Claridge Group and the Renaissance Fund acquire a third of the company's shares.

1999

Also in 1999, Paz acquired 74 percent of the Israeli fast food chain Burger Ranch.

2000

2000 – Bank Leumi acquires 19% of the company from the Bino and Lieberman groups.

2001

In late 2001, Paz completed the acquisition, becoming 100 percent owners of the chain.

2006

2006 – Paz wins the government tender for the sale of the Ashdod Oil Refinery and begins its vertical fuel chain operations.

In 2006, Paz sold the chain to the Israeli businessman Yossi Hoshinski.
