Study PCB design trends and processes, and then evaluate and implement those processes that apply to Apple's core technologies. Conduct design feasibility studies to evaluate the PCB design goals for packaging, cost, manufacturing and system performance. Assist lower level PCB Designer in the resolution of critical design problems. Train PCB Designers in specialized areas of PCB design. Propose PCB design trade-offs to the engineering design team for resolution and implementation. Perform complex and difficult CAD and CAE tasks requiring extensive skill and knowledge of equipment capabilities, applications techniques and design limitations. Understand Apple's design standards for Manufacturing and Test. Understands the requirements for a quality design and strives to achieve the requirements before releasing the product to manufacturing. Understands the driving PCB technology and process trends and their application to Apple's designs. Maintain technical coordination with Engineering, Products Design, Test, EMC Engineering and Manufacturing. Resolve PCB design issues with fabrication and manufacturing vendors. Passionately participates in the evolution and definition of Apple's Design For Manufacturing (DFM) guidelines. Participate and provide recommendations into the PCB design specifications and standards with respect to product design, electrical design, manufacturing and various regulatory agency requirements to figure out design trade-offs necessary to meet design goals and produce high quality PCB's at the lowest cost and within schedule.

Summary of Job Purpose: -Support new product development for Schematic Capture, PCB Layout and Component Engineering. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: -Perform schematic capture, symbol & footprint creation, component placement, connections, netlist and BOM generation using Orcad Capture CIS/CIP -Generate PCB layout, component placement using Cadence Allegro PCB Editor -Generate all Fab and Assembly packages including Gerbers, CAD fab & assembly drawings and BOMs -Interface with EE and ME staff for design development using IDF export and solving board level related issues -Perform Component Engineering activities including electronic part selection, electrical characteristic analysis, obsolescence management, part library management, and Spec Control Drawing generation -Perform reverse engineering for PCB layouts on legacy designs with limited sources of input -Generate Enovia release documentation packages for review and approval routes -Provide technical support to Supply Chain and PCB fabrication and assembly suppliers Required Competencies: Required Skills and Abilities: -Advanced experience using Cadence Orcad Capture CIS/CIP, Allegro PCB Editor required -Strong knowledge of multilayer PCB fabrication techniques per IPC standards -Strong knowledge in component placement for EMI and transient protection -Knowledge of Enovia or similar PLM release systems -Experience with PADS PCB Design software is a plus -Component Engineering experience is a plus -Electrical Engineering and circuit design experience is a plus but not a must -General knowledge of MS Office tools.

L3Harris' Communication Systems segment is currently seeking a PCB Designer to join our team. This position will be based at our Rochester, New York facility. Relocation assistance is available. A hybrid or remote work arrangement may be a consideration.

This person will contribute to the company's success by creating PCB layout designs from electrical schematics and mechanical design files to support the development of the most advanced radio communication equipment in the world for the military and first responders. The PCB Designer will effectively utilize design tools deployed at L3Harris to create and improve rigid, rigid-flex, and flexible printed circuit boards using the latest board technologies: 3/3 mils trace/space, microvias, stacked microvias, via-in-pad, etc.

This role will report directly to the PCB Design Manager and is responsible for successfully designing PCB assemblies, optimizing the electrical, mechanical, and manufacturing requirements to achieve all functional, quality, and cost objectives. This role helps oversee the control and synchronization of PCB assembly design and manufacturing files and documentation.
Essential Responsibilities:

+ Utilize Mentor PADS layout software to incorporate schematic, mechanical, and manufacturing inputs into new and revised PCB designs.

+ Collaborate with the cross-functional design team to resolve fabrication, assembly, and test issues identified through Valor NPI fabrication and manufacturing checks.

+ Create PCB stackups using Polar Speedstack and model controlled impedance with Polar Si9000.

+ Learn and apply layout design methodologies by PCB type, including: Digital, RF, analog, and power supply assemblies.

+ Work with Microsoft Office tools: Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams

+ Review PCB design packages for completeness and accuracy.

Basic Qualifications:

+ Bachelor's Degree and minimum 4 years of prior relevant experience or 2 years post-Secondary/ Associates Degree and a minimum of 8 years of prior related experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 2 years of prior related experience.

+ 4 + years of of PCB design software, processes, and methodologies

Preferred Qualifications:

+ Knowledge of the PCB design value chain: schematics, materials, fabrication, assembly, and related design and simulation software tools.

+ Knowledge of SMT and through-hole electronic components and packages

+ Excellent attention to detail

+ Enjoy the challenge of solving complex puzzles and creating layout design solutions

+ Experience working with a PLM tool, e.g., Agile, Teamcenter, etc.
