Key Responsibilities

Patient Care Director - RN - Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Unit

At NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital, Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Units serve the needs of critically ill infants, children, and adolescents who require specialized heart care. These specialized units are staffed by a highly skilled teams of intensivists from multiple subspecialties, including anesthesiology, pediatric cardiology, pediatric heart surgery, neonatology (newborn care), cardiac critical care, and pulmonology (lung care).
The Patient Care Director assumes front line responsibility and accountability for managing the delivery of patient care. Responsible for the total management of a designated unit, which includes setting goals and objectives in accordance with the NYPH strategic initiatives, and for planning, organizing, directing, and monitoring unit activities on a twenty-four (24) hour basis. Fiscally responsible for the unit, facilitating efficient and cost effective daily operations. Coordinates and evaluates the effectiveness of staff, unit performance, and system operations. Implements unit's strategic plan relevant to NYPH initiatives, while continuing to develop professional and support staff in establishing an environment where staff and patients are able to reach their full potential.
Preferred Criteria
Five years of leadership experience in a Pediatric ICU within a large academic medical center
Demonstrated leadership in leading unit development
Experience with union environments
Required Criteria
At least three years of Pediatric ICU nursing experience
Demonstrated leadership competencies
Master's degree in Nursing (MSN)
Current NYS RN licensure (or willingness to obtain within 3 months)

May give direct patient care to the extent of performing efficient, safe dialysis, if allowed by state regulations.
Responds to all emergencies in clinic.
Communicate results of patient assessment, reassessment, and ongoing monitoring to the physician, team members, and others as appropriate to the individual needs of the patient.
Maintain collaborative working relationship with Medical Director and physicians.
Participate as a member of the Interdisciplinary team in all required patient assessment and care planning activities.
Assist in orientation of new staff as a preceptor or in assigning a preceptor.
Acts as resource person and participates in implementing and evaluating dialysis services and assures that policies and procedures are updated.
Assists Administrator in interviewing, hiring, evaluating, and disciplinary actions of center staff
Qualifications/Requirements:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Requirements include:
Current RN license in applicable state. License must be maintained as current and in good standing.
12 months experience in providing nursing care, including 3 months of experience in providing nursing care to patients on maintenance dialysis.
CPR certification required within 90 days of hire.
Confirmation of ability to distinguish all primary colors.
Demonstrated ability to function in a leadership position and to perform in new and emergent situations with sound judgment.
Demonstrated working knowledge of the English language and ability to communicate verbally and in writing.
Must have basic computer skills; proficiency in all USRC clinical applications required within 90 days of hire.
