    General Statement of Duties / Distinguishing Features of the Class A public health detention center nurse provides comprehensive healthcare to inmates, focusing on primary care, chronic disease management and significant public health initiatives like infectious disease control (TB, STIs) within a correctional setting, working with security staff and physicians, to ensure both inmate well-being and facility safety, handling tasks from medication administration and assessments to health education and advocating for population health. This position is covered under a Collective Bargaining Agreement between the City-County of Butte-Silver Bow and the Montana Nurses Association, Local No. 37. Examples of Essential Work (Illustrative Only) Detention Center: * Clinical Care: Conduct health assessments, triage patients, administer medications, provide first aid, and manage chronic illnesses (diabetes, hypertension). * Public Health Focus: Implement communicable disease screening (HIV, Hepatitis, TB, STIs), manage outbreaks, educate inmates and staff on infection prevention, and ensure immunization protocols. * Case Management: Handle intake health questionnaires, review medical requests and ensure continuity of care. * Documentation & Reporting: Maintain accurate medical records, document care provided and report adverse reactions. * Collaboration: Work closely with correctional officers, physicians, and other healthcare providers to balance medical needs with security protocols. * Environment: Fast-paced setting that involves strict security protocols. * Advocacy: Serves as an advocate for a vulnerable population, focusing on health promotion and illness prevention.
