What Does A Peer Tutor Do At Virginia State Government

* Provide instruction to individual or small groups of students to improve academic performance.
* Assist students in improving learning and study skills.
* Keeps records of students attending tutoring sessions and maintains work hours.
* Ensures confidentiality of all records.
* Coordinates schedule with site director or designee.

What Does A Peer Tutor Do At Chippewa Valley Technical College

* filing, scheduling 1:1 tutoring appointments, and enter Academic Services students into E360 community.
* Provide 30 or 60 minute 1:1 tutoring appointments.
* Enter notes into student folders after 1:1 tutoring appointments.
* Assist Academic Services instructors as needed.
* Staff tutoring desk, facilitating intake process.
* Assist students as needed.
* Monitor Academic Services students.
* Maintain Academic Services environment.
* Be knowledgeable of Academic Services processes.
* Be assigned other duties as needed.
* Casual Call (CC) PAL Tutor: Provide 1:1 tutoring by appointment only.
* These tutoring sessions will only be in a specified content area.
* Respond to all 1:1 appointment requests.
* Provide 30 or 60 minute 1:1 tutoring appointments.
* Enter notes into student folder after 1:1 tutoring appointments.
* Be assigned other duties as needed.
* Supplemental Instruction Leader (SIL): Attend class with students and hold a Supplemental Instruction (SI) session outside of class.

* The SI session is held weekly and integrated into the students’ schedule.
* SILs will also be given up to 1 hour of collaboration time with their instructor for the course and given prep time to plan appropriate material for the SI session.
* Attend all class meetings with students.
* Model good student behavior by taking notes, completing readings, and participating in class.
* Prep for SI session using collaborative learning techniques.
* Conduct scheduled SI session outside of class time.
* Facilitate collaborating learning during SI using strategies learned during SIL training workshop.
* Communicate and meet weekly with instructor.
* Attend biweekly meetings – there may be prep that will need to be done ahead of time.
* Take attendance at every SI session and turn in hours weekly.
* Prepare end of the semester reports as directed by Tutoring Services Coordinator.
* Maintain a professional attitude about matters such as class standards, grades, and student complaints.
* Model appropriate professional attitudes and behaviors to staff, students and others.

* Peer Assisted Study Session Leader (PASS Leader): Hold a study session outside of class time.
* A PASS session is a structured study session using collaborative learning strategies learned through the Peer Tutor training workshop.
* The PASS session is held at various times during the week to accommodate most students’ schedules based off of student polling results.
* PASS Leaders will be given up to 1 hour for prep time to plan appropriate material for the PASS session.
* Prep for PASS session using collaborative learning techniques.
* Conduct scheduled PASS session outside of class time.
* Facilitate collaborating learning during PASS Sessions using strategies learned during Peer Tutor training workshop.
* Attend biweekly meetings – there may be prep that will need to be done ahead of time.

* Attend mandatory paid training at the beginning of every semester.
* Participate in ongoing training offered throughout the semester.
* Be dedicated to checking staff email account.
* Be dedicated to participating and utilizing the Tutoring Services E360 community.
* Be dependable, flexible, relatable, proactive, patient, friendly, approachable, encouraging, supportive, and have a positive attitude.
* Communicate regularly with Learning Center Coordinator and Instructor (if applicable).
* Demonstrate commitment to service excellence standards.
* Relate successfully with students and staff of diverse cultural, social or educational backgrounds.
