Performs a variety of classroom support and student personal care services as directed under the supervision of a classroom teacher.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Ohio Department of Education aide certificate.
Meets mandated state and federal qualification. Qualifications: (i.e., completion of requisite higher education credit hours/courses, approved degree, or successful passage of a sanctioned professional standards test).
Meets all mandated health requirements (e We don't mandate any TB tests.
A record free of criminal violations that would prohibit public school employment.
Complies with drug-free workplace rules and board policies.

Ability to physically assist students with disabilities (e.g., mobility, transferring, positioning, etc.).

Successful completion of communicable disease, child abuse/neglect, behavioral management, CPI, CPR, and/or first aid may be required as a condition of employment.
RESPONSIBILITIES & ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Checks with the teacher for instructions and works with small groups or individual students.
Seeks advice when expectations are unclear and acquires basic proficiency in supportive skills (e.g., sign language).
Upholds board policies and follows administrative guidelines, referring questions to supervisors.
Monitors students on an emergency basis when the teacher is absent.
Advances the district's professional image and promotes effective communication.
Facilitates community partnerships and school activities that enhance student learning.
Helps students with remedial and enrichment activities, reinforcing instructional goals.
Responds to student requests for assistance while maintaining discretion.
Supports an inclusive environment for students with disabilities.
Assists with student mobility and the use of assistive devices.
Inspects safety devices and reports unsafe conditions immediately.
Assists therapists with therapy activities and integrates them into the daily schedule.
Follows prescribed medical plans and assists with personal hygiene care as trained.
Supervises rest periods and maintains confidentiality of student information.
Takes precautions to ensure student safety and manage risk factors.
Upholds the student conduct code and participates in crisis training to manage outbursts.
ABILITIES REQUIRED:
Create a supportive instructional environment for effective teaching.
Model learning strategies in classrooms.
Evaluate instructional needs across subjects and collaborate with teachers and administrators to utilize assessment data for improvement.
Guide teachers in collecting and analyzing data to develop action plans.
Assist teachers in analyzing assessment data to evaluate student responses.
Provide individual diagnostic testing upon request.
Support curriculum personnel in achieving accountability goals towards district plan and building plans.
Collaborate with leadership teams to identify strengths and areas for instructional improvement.
Assist teachers in planning and scaffolding instruction.
Participate in reviews of at-risk students' academic progress.
Work with staff to ensure smooth transitions between school levels.
Attend scheduled meetings.
Support the district and school in providing services to special populations.
WORKING CONDITIONS:

EMPLOYMENT STATUS:

POSITION SUMMARY:
Provide academic and personal assistance to students to achieve academic success
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Assist in the educational and social development of students under the direction and guidance of the principal and classroom teachers.
Assist in the implementation of Individual Education Plans for the students and monitor their progress.
Provide support for individual students inside and outside the classroom
Work with other professionals, such as guidance counselors, speech therapist, social worker, occupational and physical therapists.
Assist classroom teachers with maintaining student records.
Support students with emotional or behavior concerns and assist them in
developing appropriate social skills.
Accompany students to classes and activities outside of special education classes, as assigned.
Assist the teacher in creating a supportive environment and a positive behavior management system.
Assist students with personal care as needed; for example, toileting, diapering and feeding.
Intervene to control and de-escalate violent behavior, as needed and as instructed.
Maintain the confidentiality of information that is not public domain.
Communicate with school personnel and parents as guided by the teacher, the Principal or the Special Education Coordinator.
Make/copy instructional supplies.
Assist substitute teachers with such things as the implementation of lesson plans and the observance of the daily schedule.
Assist in keeping the equipment clean and the special education classroom neat and organized.
Observe the assigned work schedule.
Attend student conferences as assigned.
Attend all building and Special Education staff meetings, unless excused.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Serve as a role model for students in the practice of ethical principles, responsible behavior and democratic values.
Maintain an appropriate personal appearance.
Observe all safety and health regulations of the school district.
Perform other duties as assigned by the supervising teacher, the Principal and/or the Special Education Coordinator.
QUALIFICATIONS:
High School diploma or GED preferred.
Aide permit or other appropriate State license/certificate if needed.
Alternative to the above qualifications as the Superintendent and/or Board of Education may find appropriate.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Willingness to acquire first aid and CPR training.
Willingness to participate in other recommended training programs; for example, behavior management and Crisis Prevention Training.
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing.
Ability to work effectively with children who may have severe physical or behavioral disabilities.
Ability to work cooperatively with adults.
EQUIPMENT OPERATED:
Various office machines, such as calculators, copiers, laminating machines.
Computer/word processor/printer.
Various instructional equipment.
Some specialized equipment used by students with disabilities; for example, amplification devices, medical devices and specialized computers.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Exposure to blood, bodily fluids and tissue.
Van training as required or requested.
Possible interaction with unruly or angry children, or distraught adults.
Regular requirement to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, see, read, stretch, reach with hands and arms, stoop, crouch and kneel.
Frequent requirement to lift, carry, push and pull various items; for example, adaptive equipment, up to 25 lbs.
Possible requirement to lift children, restrain children, push wheelchairs or otherwise assist with ambulation.
