Job Duties Part-time lecturers are needed for teaching non-credit intensive English courses in one of four levels of instruction. Some course-related administrative duties are required of all appointments. The Penn State Center for Infectious Disease Dynamics (CIDD) is one of the largest and most active infectious disease research centers in the U.S. The center was established in 2003 to foster transformative, cross-college interdisciplinary research in the ecology and evolution of infectious disease in human, animal, and plant hosts. The center includes more than 70 faculty from across nine colleges. The center is part of the Huck Institutes of the Life Sciences, which exists to strengthen interdisciplinary life science research and graduate education across the University. Dynamic models of pathogen/parasite transmission, interactions with hosts, and evolution have been central to the CIDD mission and provide a critical link between faculty expertise from the bench-top to applications in health, agriculture, and conservation. The scope of data and systems to measure, interpret, forecast, and intervene in infectious disease systems has grown dramatically. CIDD is committed to leading cutting-edge modeling and computational approaches to leverage the breadth and depth of these novel data sources. We are seeking new faculty with a focus and established scholarship in infectious disease modeling to align with CIDD's goals to maintain its international leadership in the ecology and evolution of infectious disease. We specifically seek candidates who have led multidisciplinary projects to combine modeling and computational tools with large time series, epidemiological, or genomic data sets to address fundamental questions in pathogen or parasite persistence, evolution, and control. Successful candidates are expected to have an established track record of successful extramural funding, published results from multidisciplinary research projects, and evidence of leadership of multidisciplinary scientific teams. They will be expected to contribute to the Center leadership through participation on the Executive Committee and development of research, training, and/or outreach initiatives. The integration of research and Extension will foster innovation in dairy food safety, manufacturing, and quality practices. The successful candidate will lead research projects that address current challenges and develop new solutions, advancing the field and supporting the dairy industry. Key ResponsibilitiesExtension (75%) Training and Education Provide technical support and training on dairy food safety regulations, manufacturing best practices, and quality control. This established course is an introduction to the central role of food and food production in all areas of human life. The social and technological bases of various food systems are examined from the hunter-gatherer to the agrarian to the modern industrial system and its discontents. The course also considers how different types of food (e.g., meat, milk, cereals, chocolate) are preserved and distributed, examining both the effects of the development of the science and technology on society and vice versa. The roles of various food components (e.g., proteins, carbohydrates, fats, and vitamins) are examined both within the foods as determinants of quality, and also in terms of human nutrition and health. Finally, various other ways food may be considered appropriate or inappropriate will be studied including scientifically based reasons (e.g., safety, taste, adulteration) and non-scientifically based reasons (e.g., ethical, legal, religious). JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS: The Department of Statistics at The Pennsylvania State University invite applications for part-time online instructional faculty positions to teach the Department's University Park courses throughout Spring 2025, Summer 2025, and Fall 2025 semesters. The responsibilities include: providing program instruction for our in person courses and administering them through our learning management system (Canvas) incorporating innovative teaching methodologies engaging in classes designing course material and assessments providing personalized and substantive feedback A conferred Ph.D. in Statistics or a related field is preferred. Applicants with a masters degree and related experience will be considered. Previous experience is preferred.
