The Intensive English Communication Program (IECP) offers courses in academic English to prepare international students for undergraduate and graduate studies at American universities. Job Duties Part-time lecturers are needed for teaching non-credit intensive English courses in one of four levels of instruction. The Penn State Center for Infectious Disease Dynamics (CIDD) is one of the largest and most active infectious disease research centers in the U.S. The center was established in 2003 to foster transformative, cross-college interdisciplinary research in the ecology and evolution of infectious disease in human, animal, and plant hosts. The center includes more than 70 faculty from across nine colleges. The center is part of the Huck Institutes of the Life Sciences, which exists to strengthen interdisciplinary life science research and graduate education across the University. Penn State consistently ranks among the nation's top 25 public research universities, with fiscal year 2024 research expenditures exceeding $1.3 billion. Dynamic models of pathogen/parasite transmission, interactions with hosts, and evolution have been central to the CIDD mission and provide a critical link between faculty expertise from the bench-top to applications in health, agriculture, and conservation. The scope of data and systems to measure, interpret, forecast, and intervene in infectious disease systems has grown dramatically. CIDD is committed to leading cutting-edge modeling and computational approaches to leverage the breadth and depth of these novel data sources. We are seeking new faculty with a focus and established scholarship in infectious disease modeling to align with CIDD's goals to maintain its international leadership in the ecology and evolution of infectious disease. We specifically seek candidates who have led multidisciplinary projects to combine modeling and computational tools with large time series, epidemiological, or genomic data sets to address fundamental questions in pathogen or parasite persistence, evolution, and control. Successful candidates are expected to have an established track record of successful extramural funding, published results from multidisciplinary research projects, and evidence of leadership of multidisciplinary scientific teams. They will be expected to contribute to the Center leadership through participation on the Executive Committee and development of research, training, and/or outreach initiatives. The Department and College tenure home is open for negotiation based on research interests and could be in one or more of the following colleges: College of Agricultural Sciences, College of Engineering, College of Health and Human Development, College of Liberal Arts, College of Medicine, and the Eberly College of Science. There is an expectation that the candidate will join the faculty of one of the Huck Institute's six Interdisciplinary Graduate Degree Programs. The integration of research and Extension will foster innovation in dairy food safety, manufacturing, and quality practices. The successful candidate will lead research projects that address current challenges and develop new solutions, advancing the field and supporting the dairy industry. Key ResponsibilitiesExtension (75%) Training and Education Provide technical support and training on dairy food safety regulations, manufacturing best practices, and quality control. Assume responsibility for a portfolio of existing successful short courses and workshops, including for example the Pasteurizers Operators Short Course, Cultured Dairy Products Short Course, Preventive Controls (PCQI/FSMA) for Dairy Manufacturers, and others. Candidates are expected to pursue extramural funding to support their research program, publish in high-impact journals, and collaborate with interdisciplinary teams across the college and university and food industry. The successful candidate will join a vibrant and collaborative department comprised of faculty with expertise in food chemistry, food microbiome, microbial food safety, sensory and consumer science, food engineering, and dairy foods. The Lifelong Learning and Adult Education (LLAED) program in the Department of Learning and Performance Systems is seeking multiple part-time adjunct instructors to teach graduate-level (master's) courses, as well as one undergraduate course that is focused on writing and speech communication for adult learners. The courses are offered in an online asynchronous format over 15 to 16 weeks per semester. Courses may include topics such as: Adult learning theory and practice Health care education for adult learners Distance education and instructional design Educational research and assessment in adult education Our program serves a diverse population of adult learners, including working professionals, career changers, and lifelong learners seeking personal and professional growth. We are committed to inclusive, high-quality online instruction that reflects the values of adult education: learner-centeredness, relevance, and accessibility. Preferred Qualifications: Doctorate (Ph.D. or D.Ed.) in Adult Education, Lifelong Learning, Educational Leadership, Instructional Design, Health Professions Education, or a closely related field. Demonstrated commitment to excellence in online teaching, including the use of inclusive pedagogies and adult learning principles. Experience teaching adult learners in higher education settings, particularly in asynchronous or hybrid online formats. Familiarity with Canvas (Penn State's Learning Management System) or similar online platforms. Ability to engage with students multiple times per week, providing timely feedback, facilitating online discussions, and supporting learner success. Strong communication and organizational skills, with a collaborative and student-centered approach. Experience or interest in teaching courses for master's students related to health care education, adult learning, adult development, instructional design, or distance education is highly desirable.
