Open Rank Professor Tenure Track Position in Caring & Compassion
The Department of Human Development and Family Studies (HDFS), located in the College of Health and Human Development at The Pennsylvania State University, invites applications for a tenure-track position in Human Development and Family Studies. We seek a scholar whose work meaningfully advances the science and practice of caring, compassion, and human flourishing, particularly in the context of child development and education-based intervention. The successful candidate will contribute to and benefit from Penn State's vibrant ecosystem of interdisciplinary research on prevention, positive youth development and developmental science. We are particularly interested in applicants whose scholarship focuses on intervention or implementation efforts that promote caring, compassion, social-emotional and human flourishing supports for children and youth in educational or early childhood settings. Candidates tenured at their current institution will be considered for tenure on entry.
A successful Associate or Full Professor candidate is also anticipated to assume the Bennett Pierce Endowed Professorship of Caring and Compassion. The Bennett Pierce Endowed Professorship is supported by a gift from Edna Bennett Pierce & Bud Pierce, whose philanthropy also established the Edna Bennett Pierce Prevention Research Center-one of multiple endowments in prevention, caring & compassion established by the family. The professorship offers generous research funding and is embedded within an interdisciplinary environment committed to improving lives through prevention and human connection. Endowed professorships are reviewed every five years, with productive candidates expected to continue their appointments.
Responsibilities:
Develop and sustain an internationally recognized, externally funded research program
Contribute to undergraduate and graduate teaching and mentorship
Advance scholarship and practice in the areas of compassion, caring, or flourishing in childhood, youth, and family systems
Collaborate with the Edna Bennett Pierce Prevention Research Center, and university-wide institutes focused on child and family wellbeing
Provide leadership in integrating contemplative science and human flourishing into education, prevention, and policy contexts
Ideal candidates will demonstrate:
A strong record of externally funded research, including NIH or foundation-supported intervention work
Research that integrates compassion, empathy, caring relationships, or related constructs
Expertise in child or adolescent development, particularly in contexts of education, early childhood, and/or parenting-based intervention
Interest in translational or applied scholarship that bridges science and practice
A commitment to interdisciplinary collaboration and building community
Qualifications:
Candidates must hold a doctoral degree in human development, family science, psychology, education, public health, prevention science, or a related field
A record of excellence in research, teaching, and service appropriate to rank
Appointment with tenure requires qualifications consistent with the rank of AssociateProfessor or Professor at Penn State

The Department of Food Science at Penn State, a nationally recognized leader in dairy educational programs and research, invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position specializing in Dairy Foods Safety, Manufacturing, and Quality. This position will be filled as an Assistant/AssociateProfessor of Food Science-Dairy Foods Safety, Manufacturing, and Quality and is designed to address critical needs in the dairy industry through a combination of Extension and research activities. The successful candidate will develop and deliver educational programs and conduct research to enhance the safety, manufacturing processes, and quality of dairy products.
Pennsylvania has a robust dairy processing sector, with over 100 dairy processing plants across the Commonwealth. These plants produce a wide range of dairy products, including cheese, yogurt, ice cream, and butter. This position will address industry demands by providing critical support and education to dairy processors.
The integration of research and Extension will foster innovation in dairy food safety, manufacturing, and quality practices. The successful candidate will lead research projects that address current challenges and develop new solutions, advancing the field and supporting the dairy industry.
Key ResponsibilitiesExtension (75%)
Training and Education
Provide technical support and training on dairy food safety regulations, manufacturing best practices, and quality control.
Assume responsibility for a portfolio of existing successful short courses and workshops, including for example the Pasteurizers Operators Short Course, Cultured Dairy Products Short Course, Preventive Controls (PCQI/FSMA) for Dairy Manufacturers, and others.
Contribute to other dairy focused short courses and workshops.
Organize events such as workshops, seminars and webinars to engage with the dairy processing community.
Provide professional development to Extension educators on dairy safety, manufacturing, and quality
Industry/Stakeholder Engagement and Support
Assess the needs of small, medium and large dairy processors in PA. Develop new training in person, on-line or hybrid programs to address identified gaps and emerging needs.
Provide support to large and small processors seeking to develop value added dairy products.
Collaborate with Extension educators, industry partners, and regulatory agencies to disseminate research findings and promote best practices.
Interact with Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture and other regulatory authorities to provide necessary trainings and technical support.
Research (25%)
The research program will depend on the expertise of the successful candidate but may include for example:
Investigation of innovative methods to detect and control human pathogens (e.g., Listeria, Salmonella) in dairy processing facilities.
Exploration of natural preservatives or packaging technologies to enhance the shelf life of dairy products.
Development of novel processing systems
Development of methods to reduce water and energy consumption and valorize waste in dairy manufacturing operations.
Develop and assess ways of implementing AI and other advanced analytics in quality assurance and safety program effectiveness in dairy manufacturing facilities.
The successful candidate will be expected to secure external funding to support their research initiatives, to publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals, present at scientific conferences, and to mentor graduate students and supervise their research projects.
Required Qualifications
Ph.D. in Food Science, Dairy Science, Microbiology, or a related field.
Demonstrated expertise in dairy food safety, manufacturing, and quality.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Proven track record of research and publication.
Desired Qualifications
Post doctoral experience.
Experience in Extension education and outreach
Experience working with the dairy/food industry.

The Pennsylvania State University is seeking a Full or AssociateProfessor in Infectious Disease Modeling to support the mission of the Center for Infectious Disease Dynamics (********************* of the Huck Institutes of the Life Sciences. This is a cross-University search, and the position will be appointed in a department and College that is appropriate for the research and teaching program of the candidate.
The Penn State Center for Infectious Disease Dynamics (CIDD) is one of the largest and most active infectious disease research centers in the U.S. The center was established in 2003 to foster transformative, cross-college interdisciplinary research in the ecology and evolution of infectious disease in human, animal, and plant hosts. The center includes more than 70 faculty from across nine colleges. The center is part of the Huck Institutes of the Life Sciences, which exists to strengthen interdisciplinary life science research and graduate education across the University. Penn State consistently ranks among the nation's top 25 public research universities, with fiscal year 2024 research expenditures exceeding $1.3 billion.
Dynamic models of pathogen/parasite transmission, interactions with hosts, and evolution have been central to the CIDD mission and provide a critical link between faculty expertise from the bench-top to applications in health, agriculture, and conservation. The scope of data and systems to measure, interpret, forecast, and intervene in infectious disease systems has grown dramatically. CIDD is committed to leading cutting-edge modeling and computational approaches to leverage the breadth and depth of these novel data sources. We are seeking new faculty with a focus and established scholarship in infectious disease modeling to align with CIDD's goals to maintain its international leadership in the ecology and evolution of infectious disease. We specifically seek candidates who have led multidisciplinary projects to combine modeling and computational tools with large time series, epidemiological, or genomic data sets to address fundamental questions in pathogen or parasite persistence, evolution, and control.
Successful candidates are expected to have an established track record of successful extramural funding, published results from multidisciplinary research projects, and evidence of leadership of multidisciplinary scientific teams. They will be expected to contribute to the Center leadership through participation on the Executive Committee and development of research, training, and/or outreach initiatives. The Department and College tenure home is open for negotiation based on research interests and could be in one or more of the following colleges: College of Agricultural Sciences, College of Engineering, College of Health and Human Development, College of Liberal Arts, College of Medicine, and the Eberly College of Science. There is an expectation that the candidate will join the faculty of one of the Huck Institute's six Interdisciplinary Graduate Degree Programs.
In addition to establishing a rigorous externally funded research program in any aspect of infectious disease at Penn State, duties also include:
Promote a culture of excellence in infectious disease research, teaching, and outreach across the Penn State system; Promote Penn State as a global leader in interdisciplinary infectious disease research through novel collaborations that integrate existing CIDD strengths; Lead the growth of the CIDD through strategic initiatives and development of collaborative, interdisciplinary research teams; Support the training of next generation of infectious disease researchers via classroom and experiential learning opportunities; Participate in strategic planning to ensure financial sustainability of the Penn State CIDD; Participate in the CIDD Executive Committee to develop and execute a strategic vision and approaches for the center; Engage current Penn State faculty, postdoctoral fellows, and student members of the CIDD to shape its future; Actively engage in mentorship of early career faculty hired in association with the Center; and Support community development and engagement at the student, staff, postdoctoral and faculty levels.
A PhD in any infectious disease-related field is required. The Department of Food Science at The Pennsylvania State University seeks a tenure track faculty member to build an Extension program in an area related to microbiological food safety, food quality, or industrial food processing. This position will be hired as an Assistant/AssociateProfessor of Food Science-Microbiological Food Safety, Food Quality, and Industrial Food Processing. Agriculture in Pennsylvania accounts for approximately $83.8 billion in direct economic output and more than 280,500 jobs. Within the agriculture sector, food processing and manufacturing is the largest sub-sector, accounting for nearly 60% of the economic output and 32% of the total direct employment. Penn State's land-grant mission is to provide education, research, and public service to all people in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. The Food Science Department is uniquely positioned in the College of Agricultural Sciences to provide expertise needed to meet the food safety and quality needs of food production and processing professionals.
Key Responsibilities
Extension (75%): The successful candidate will build a nationally recognized Extension education program to provide support to food industry stakeholders in Pennsylvania and beyond in the following ways:
Conduct short courses and workshops, including online programs, offered through the Department of Food Science.
Develop and deliver new workforce training programs to meet the current and emerging needs of small and large food processors in PA.
Develop and maintain relationships and provide expertise to regulatory agencies including the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture, The Food and Drug Administration, and the USDA-FSIS.
Provide expertise and direction to Cooperative Extension Food Safety and Quality program team in the areas of food production, processing, food service, and retail, and home food safety and preservation.
Develop programs and processes that provide support to people interested in starting or scaling up a food manufacturing business. This approach could include facilitating access to laboratory services and assisting with product formulation and equipment scale-up.
Provide professional development to Extension educators on food safety topics.
Respond to questions from the public about food safety topics.
Research (25%): The successful candidate will conduct problem-solving food safety and quality research in critical issues and disseminate the findings through publications in scientific journals and public stakeholders. The candidate will seek internal and external collaboration opportunities with faculty members within the Food Science Department and other departments/units at Penn State, and with regional, national, and international partners. Research areas of interest will vary depending on the expertise of the successful candidate; these include but are not limited to:
Food safety process validation studies for small and large organizations.
Development of processes and procedures to enhance food quality.
Conducting regular needs assessments to determine education and research gaps.
Evaluation of educational programs.
Qualifications:
Ph.D. in Food Science, Microbiology, or a closely related field with a focus on food microbiology, food safety or food processing.
Strong record of research in areas such as microbial food safety, foodborne pathogens, or industrial food processing. Experience with advanced microbial detection methods or risk analysis.

Key Responsibilities:
Research (75%)
We seek an innovative and collaborative scientist whose research program addresses fundamental and/or applied aspects of how food structure, texture, and composition interact with human oral physiology during eating to affect liking and/or intake. The successful candidate will be expected to develop a nationally and internationally recognized, externally funded research program.
Areas of interest include, but are not limited to, one or more of the following:
Textural improvements of plant-based meat replacers
Mechanisms of food breakdown and transformation in the mouth
Enzymatic and biological effects on oral processing of starch, lipids, or other food macromolecules
Relationships between food structure, rheology, oral tribology, perception, and acceptance
Influence of oral processing on nutrient release, flavor perception, and/or satiety
Development of novel food products optimized for texture, flavor, and post prandial effects
Specialized consideration of oral processing in aging populations or clinical populations with dysphagia, cancer, or other health conditions
In vivo, in vitro, and computational modeling of oral processing phenomena
Effects of oral processing on eating rate and energy intake
This position offers exceptional opportunities to collaborate with interdisciplinary teams working at the intersection of food science, sensory and consumer science, nutrition, physiology, processing, engineering, and public health. Candidates are expected to pursue extramural funding to support their research program, publish in high-impact journals, and collaborate with interdisciplinary teams across the college and university and food industry.
The successful candidate will join a vibrant and collaborative department comprised of faculty with expertise in food chemistry, food microbiome, microbial food safety, sensory and consumer science, food engineering, and dairy foods. The Department of Food Science offers state-of-the-art research and teaching laboratories and unique resources for oral processing research, including the Penn State Sensory Evaluation Center and Food Microstructure and Microanalysis facilities. Collaboration opportunities also exist with the Penn State Department of Nutritional Sciences, Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders, the Huck Institutes of the Life Sciences at Penn State, the Penn State Center for Healthy Aging, and the Center for Childhood Obesity Research at Penn State. Potential partnerships with industry leaders in food formulation, oral health, and medical nutrition are also possible. Teaching (25%)
The successful candidate will teach a 3-credit undergraduate course in FDSC that is aligned with their expertise: examples include but are not limited to FDSC 200 (“Introductory Food Science”) or FDSC 403 (“Sensory Data Collection & Analysis”). In addition, the candidate is expected to develop a new 3-credit graduate course that aligns with her/his area of expertise and program needs. The candidate will mentor undergraduate and graduate students and support the department's curriculum development. The successful candidate will also be expected to participate in departmental, college, and university committees, professional organizations, and community outreach activities. Required Qualifications:

The Department of Agricultural and Biological Engineering at The Pennsylvania State University invites applications for an Assistant Professor position in natural resources and conservation practices in agriculture and natural resources. This tenure-track faculty position will be on a 36-week academic year appointment, with 40% Teaching and 60% Research responsibilities.
This position has been created to enable student success in interdisciplinary education and lead a nationally recognized research program in the area of natural resources and conservation. Desired expertise includes the effects of climate variability on management and projections of natural resources, including water quality and soil health, in agro-ecosystems. The candidate will teach courses in one of the College's largest majors (Environmental Resource Management, ERM), with courses including, but not limited to: (i) ERM 412 (Resource Systems Analysis; 3 credit hours (lecture+lab and taught in Fall and Spring semesters, required option); (ii) ERM/WFS 450 (Wetland Conservation; 3 credit hours, lecture+lab; required option); potentially (iii) ERM 499A (Foreign Studies/Study Abroad; 3 credit hours, lecture), and other course(s) that the Department Head may ask the candidate to develop and teach [i.e., 100/200 level General Education (Gen Ed) course for the Biological Engineering Undergraduate Major]. The interdepartmental ERM program is one of the most visible and impactful programs in the college and these courses are critical components of the program.
Pennsylvania has a significant and diverse agricultural industry with a vast variety of commodities produced; therefore, there is a pressing need for enhancing the workforce development and training of engineering and science students in the areas of natural resources and conservation practices. This position will enhance our capability and capacity to fill this gap, enabling us to train and educate the future generation of natural resources engineers and non-engineering professionals, and helping to meet the demand of Pennsylvania stakeholders, citizens and agricultural professionals to improve agricultural productivity and efficiency considering climate change and variability. A specific emphasis will be on the implications of climate change and variability for implementation/adoption of the best natural resources and agricultural management practices.
The successful faculty member will be residing in the Department of Agricultural and Biological Engineering (********************** We seek an outstanding candidate with demonstrated interests, ability, and accomplishments in planning, researching, developing, designing and disseminating solutions (through an innovative Research program) in the areas of natural resources, including water quantity and quality and how climate change and variability impact these resources in specialty cropping systems as well as the agronomic row crop agricultural and natural resources. Desired expertise needed includes demonstrated background and expertise (or desire to learn) in implementing agricultural conservation practices in a field and larger scales, soil quality (health) practices; best agronomic management practices that result in high productivity and production efficiency and improved farm net return; implementing soil, water and crop management practices and technologies in production fields, while protecting environmental services.
The faculty member is expected to: (i) mentor graduate and undergraduate students in globally diverse, multicultural, transdisciplinary and inclusive research and teaching programs; (ii) develop strong collaborations across campus, Pennsylvania, the region and nationally; (iii) develop new and/or enhance existing collaborations and partnerships with the USDA-Natural Resources Conservice Service (NRCS), USDA-Agricultural Research Service (USDA-ARS), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Soil and Water Conservation Districts, and other state and federal agency colleagues to partner in conducting need assessments and implementing them into the research program. The successful candidate must have the desire and ability to conduct research, publish refereed journal articles in reputable journals, and seek external grant funding and participate in the national and international professional society functions. Demonstrated ability to function in a multidisciplinary and transdisciplinary team environment is a requirement. The person should have demonstrated capability to carry out original, independent, and innovative and nationally visible Research and Teaching programs. Qualifications: Candidate must have a Ph.D. in agricultural, biological, civil, or environmental engineering, or related engineering and non-engineering fields. High quality Research and Teaching experience in terms of integrating engineering, agroecology, hydrology, agricultural economists, biology, climate science, agronomy, economics, and natural resources is important because the faculty member is expected to interact and provide leadership with teams of engineers; biological, environmental, and plant scientists; agricultural economists; and other physical scientists. The faculty member in this position will also be expected to consider scales of local and regional processes, while maintaining local and global perspectives for addressing solutions. POSITION SPECIFICS
Penn State's Department of Landscape Architecture seeks an innovative, thoughtful colleague interested in enhancing our department's curricula and research in the making of landscape architecture, an inquiry that includes our core courses in design implementation - grading, stormwater, planting design, and material assemblies. We are particularly interested in candidates with a demonstrated strength in design and teaching in entry-level to advanced design studios and with an ability to connect their teaching to contemporary professional practice.
We are seeking applicants who will embrace our mission of “inspired work grounded in environmental and social good,” contribute outstanding teaching, and advance the discipline of landscape architecture through research and/or creative practice. Additionally, the successful applicant will be able to work effectively with faculty, staff and students from diverse backgrounds, and contribute to the department's broad environmental and social interests. We imagine a colleague who would take advantage of the Stuckeman School's three research centers and support facilities - which include the Immersive Environments Lab (IEL), DigiFab lab, and wood shop - and who would expand on our existing faculty research expertise in green stormwater infrastructure, coastal resilience, and ecological systems design.
The successful candidate will join our community as a tenure line Assistant Professor, starting in August 2026. The typical teaching load is two courses per semester, including design studios and core or elective courses in landscape technologies. The position additionally will entail service responsibilities within the department as well as the expectation of research or creative activity.

About the Department
Penn State Landscape Architecture resides in the Stuckeman School, which also houses the Departments of Architecture and Graphic Design. Generous endowments support several Chairs and Professorships for full professors, a Career Development Professor in Design for early-career faculty, and grant opportunities to provide early- or mid-career faculty professional development. The endowments also provide funding for faculty travel, visiting critics, lectures and exhibitions, research assistants, and course enhancement funds. The Stuckeman School includes three research centers: the Hamer Center for Community Design, the Stuckeman Center for Design Computing, and E+D: Ecology + Design. All three offer a robust research community, facilitation of community and industry connections, grants assistance, and funding for student research support, course support, and research travel.
The Department offers professionally accredited BLA and MLA degrees, a post-professional MS in Landscape Architecture, a landscape architecture research track under the PhD in Architecture, and a Minor in Landscape Architecture that attracts students from many disciplines throughout the college and university.

Qualifications
Required
1. A terminal degree in Landscape Architecture, or in a related discipline with at least one degree in landscape architecture;
2. A record of scholarly and/or professional work that aligns with our mission;

The Department of Graphic Design at the Stuckeman School in Penn State's College of Arts and Architecture invites applications for two full-time tenure-track positions in Graphic Design to support a systems-based approach to visual communications.
Appointment conditions: This is a tenure track, 36-week appointment with the possibility of supplementary summer appointments in research and/or teaching. Full University benefits apply. Responsibilities: The position will include teaching undergraduate and/or graduate courses in the Department of Graphic Design. Candidates are expected to continue engagement in professional research and creative activities. Required qualifications:
· Earned terminal degree in Graphic Design, Visual Communications, or a comparable terminal degree (such as an MFA in Design, a Master of Design, or a Ph.D. in Design) at the time of appointment;

· Evidence of a commitment to excellence in teaching and advising, commensurate with experience;

The Department of Finance of The Pennsylvania State University (University Park) seeks to fill up to two tenure-line faculty positions at the Assistant Professor rank beginning in Fall 2026. JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
POSITION DESCRIPTION: The Department of Entomology at The Pennsylvania State University seeks applications for a full-time, 9-month tenure track Assistant/AssociateProfessor of Public Health Entomology with 70% research, 30% Extension assignment. Candidates with expertise in arthropods affecting humans including such pests as ticks, bedbugs, mosquitoes, and/or arthropods that contribute to allergies/asthma are encouraged to apply. Research focus could include, but is not limited to, pest management, pesticide resistance, population dynamics, behavioral/chemical ecological interactions, interactions of arthropods with pathogens and symbionts, and/or epidemiology.
RESPONSIBILITIES: The successful applicant will establish a strong externally funded research program, conduct independent high-quality research, publish in leading scholarly journals, and mentor graduate students. Extension responsibilities include interacting with other specialists, county educators, and relevant stakeholder groups (especially urban clientele) around the state, region and nation; and developing a comprehensive extension education program with a variety of outputs. The ability to engage a diverse population of faculty, staff, and students at the Departmental, College, and University levels is an important aspect of this academic appointment.

POSITION SPECIFICS

JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
The School of Engineering Design and Innovation (SEDI) within the College of Engineering is seeking individuals for part-time teaching positions.
A Master's Degree, in engineering or a closely related field, or similar education and experience required. Applicants should be interested in teaching as part of programs that are offered by the School. These include:
1. Engineering Design (EDSGN) Program
Courses within the program, particularly the cornerstone engineering design course, assists students in learning design processes, methods, and decision-making tools while engaged in team-based design projects. Effective use of communication skills and computer-aided analysis tools are an integral part of the cornerstone engineering design course.
2. Entrepreneurship and Innovation (ENTI) Minor
Courses are taught in support of the Technology-Based Entrepreneurship or the Social Entrepreneurship cluster within the Entrepreneurship and Innovation (ENTI) Minor that assist students in obtaining skills attributed to entrepreneurial behavior and innovative thinking.
3. Engineering Leadership Development (ELD) Program
Courses in engineering leadership provide students with the understanding of individual, team, and organizational leadership; business acumen, global competencies and multicultural awareness; and innovation and management.
4. Law, Policy, and Engineering (LPE) Program
Courses in Law, Policy, and Engineering aim to provide new cross-disciplinary perspectives and tools required to solve complex multidisciplinary problems and address societal changes. Students will be versed in science and technology policy, legal and regulatory policy, complex systems design, and anticipating technology trends.
5. Other courses as part of SEDTAPP's growing portfolio.
