The Materials Science and Engineering department at The Pennsylvania State University is seeking a seeking motivated undergraduate students majoring in Material Science and Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or Engineering Science and Mechanics to join our research team. As an Undergraduate ResearchAssistant, you will collaborate closely with graduate students, assisting them in their research programs. This position offers an opportunity to gain hands-on experience, contribute to cutting-edge projects, and develop essential technical skills. Students are allowed to work up to 20 hours per week.
Responsibilities:
Sample Fabrication: Prepare and fabricate materials samples according to
project requirements.
Data Collection: Assist in collecting experimental data using various
techniques and instruments.
Materials Characterization: Conduct analyses such as microscopy,
spectroscopy, and mechanical testing to characterize materials.
Data Analysis: Process and analyze experimental results, drawing

Our work focuses on urban greenspaces and soils, with the goal of clarifying how belowground processes sustain plant health and drive ecosystem services in the environments where people live, work, and play.
Responsibilities may include:
Collecting plant and soil samples from field and greenhouse experiments

The Kitchen produces tightly controlled meals and diets for research studies conducted at Penn State. JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS
The Forage Crop Systems Laboratory seeks an hourly-waged part-time researchassistant within the Department of Plant Science at The Pennsylvania State University. Typical duties for a researchassistant will include compiling research data, screening data quality, conducting preliminary analysis, conducting a literature review, and writing manuscripts. The researchassistant will focus on the Stubble Height project conclusion with one journal article published under the leadership of Guojie Wang, the Principal Investigator, in the Forage Crop Systems Laboratory. Upon completion of the Stubble Height project, the researchassistant will focus on historical data from all forage variety trials at Penn State, work on data requisition and visualization, and publish several extension fact sheets as outcomes. While working on the publications, the researchassistant will also assist Guojie Wang with the NESARE funding application by organizing brainstorming meetings, project planning, and proposal construction. The publication and funding application will take approximately 15 hours per week. The researchassistant will support the implementation of agronomic and ecological field experiments on perennial forage crops and annual cover crops. The researchassistant is expected to ensure the safe operation of specialized equipment, collect data by measurement, sampling, and subjective assessments to evaluate forage crops, and prepare plant tissue and soil samples for lab analysis. The fieldwork will take approximately 5 hours per week.
Applicants with a master's degree in agronomy, animal science, plant science, soil science, biology, agriculture, bioengineering, biotechnology, microbiology, or a related field are encouraged to apply. Experience with farm equipment and fieldwork is desired. The successful candidate will work up to 20 hours/week, starting on November 1, 2025, or at a later date.
The work location is at Russell E. Larson Agricultural Research Center in Rock Springs, central PA, and University Park, PA; relocation and housing are not provided. The candidate selected may be subject to a government security investigation.

The Research Technologist will hold a position of responsibility within the laboratory contributing to the generation of high-quality, reproducible scientific data while ensuring the orderly, compliant, and efficient operation of the research environment. Working in close coordination with faculty investigators and senior research personnel, the incumbent will support experimental workflows that underpin externally funded research, maintain continuity across ongoing projects, and uphold institutional standards for biosafety, data integrity, and regulatory compliance.

Key Responsibilities:
Laboratory Techniques and Experimental Support
Perform a wide range of molecular biology techniques, including DNA and RNA extraction, PCR and RT-PCR, gel electrophoresis, molecular cloning, and protein and peptide analysis and purification.
Prepare, quality-control, and manage sequencing workflows, including library preparation for next-generation sequencing, sample normalization, and documentation.
Process, label, store, and track biological samples to accordance with institutional biosafety, biosecurity, and regulatory requirements.
Assist with experimental design, execution, optimization, and troubleshooting under the guidance of faculty or senior research staff.
Maintain accurate, thorough, and timely laboratory notebooks and electronic records documenting protocols, observations, and results.
Laboratory Operations and Equipment Management
Lead and support laboratory organization, including workflow optimization, space management, and adherence to safety standards.
Prepare buffers, media, reagents, and solutions following established protocols and quality standards.
Monitor laboratory inventory, coordinate ordering of supplies, and ensure uninterrupted laboratory operations.
Perform routine maintenance, calibrations, and verification of laboratory equipment, including thermocyclers, centrifuges, biosafety cabinets, and related instrumentation.

Data Management and Reporting

Job duties to include:
The RAs will be contacting international and Colombian organizations active in the peacebuilding aid networks collected in a previous data effort. The RAs will be contacting organizations located at the end of the reported chain of aid delivery to gather information on a) the locations of the project implementation sites, b) any additional organizations in the chain of aid delivery (final recipients) not captured in the reported data, and c) characteristics of the relationship between organizations (e.g. the degree of involvement of local partners). The appointment is expected to start January 2026 and end by the end before the end of the Spring 2026 semester.
Requirements, qualifications, and/or competencies:
An ideal candidate would have contextual knowledge of the aid system in Colombia and of research design principles.
Compensation:
The starting rate for this job is $15.00/hour, at 10 hours/week, for about 80 hours total.

The ResearchAssistant provides support for research project operations and logistics, facilitates communications between research team and sponsors, assists with data entry and organization, prepares project documentation, and processes financial transactions related to the project.
The primary responsibilities of the position will be assisting the Director, Prof. Doug Werner, to manage the daily operation of the Computational Electromagnetics and Antennas Research Lab (CEARL) as well as the Center. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to participate in funded research projects and is expected to assist in the writing of proposals and preparing technical reports as well as other duties as directed.
Duties are but not limited to the following:
Assisting the Director in managing the daily operations of the CEARL
Assisting and preparing technical reports for current and future internal/external sponsors
Assisting with writing proposals for future research opportunities
Other lab duties as needed
Education and Experience:
Minimum requirements for this position include an Associate's Degree and 4 or more years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Part-time (spring and fall semesters) researchassistant positions are available in the Esker Lab in the Department of Plant Pathology and Environmental Microbiology. These positions provide laboratory and field support for the plant disease epidemiology program, with emphasis on research in field crops such as corn, soybean, and wheat.
We are a dynamic lab that uses multiple methods for working with plant diseases funded by federal grants and support from commodity groups and industry partners. Our program conducts research using facilities located in Buckhout Laboratory on the University Park campus. We also have field trials at the Russell E. Larson Agricultural Research Center at Rock Springs, the Southeast Agricultural Research and Extension Center at Manheim, and across the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania as part of the Soybean On-Farm Network. Opportunities also exist for conducting independent research!
Typical duties in this position include, but are not limited to:
Fungal culture media preparation
Microbiological culturing and isolation of soil and seed-borne fungal pathogens
Enumeration of fungal colonies
Selection of pure cultures of isolates for long-term preservation
Microscopic evaluation and identification of fungal cultures
Assist with laboratory assays, including pathogenicity tests and fungicide sensitivity studies
Assist with DNA extraction and quality check of fungal isolates from different genomic projects
Collect soil and plant samples from field and greenhouse experiments and provide necessary assistance with sample processing prior to analysis/evaluation
Perform germination tests for corn, soybean, and wheat seed samples from field trials
Assess plant diseases from research studies conducted in the field, as well as in greenhouse or growth chamber trials
Data entry of field and laboratory experiments
This job requires that you operate a motor vehicle as a part of your job duties. A valid US driver's license and successful completion of a motor vehicle records check will be required in addition to standard background checks.

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented undergraduate student to join our research team as a ResearchAssistant. The student will contribute to ongoing research projects in high-energy astroparticle physics, with a focus on neutrinos, under the supervision of Dr. Stephanie Wissel, Associate Professor in Physics and Astronomy and Astrophysics. POSITION SPECIFICS
The Stewart Laboratory in Penn State's Department of Biology seeks a Research Technologist of Life Sciences (Senior Professional) to support research in fishes.
The successful candidate will maintain lab supplies and equipment, manage and oversee fish colonies, contribute to research projects, assist in maintaining lab safety protocols of staff and student, investigates and evaluates research methods, advising faculty and researchers on optimal use of methodology and equipment, collect and analyze data, summarizing the results for dissemination in manuscripts, training PhD students and Postdocs in the lab in equipment operation and research techniques, and provide constructive feedback to both trainees and the PI on ongoing experiments.
All work will be carried out in the laboratory and animal facility managed by the Stewart Lab. Occasional weekend and holiday work may be required in exchange for time off during the week. Flexibility is a must.
The successful applicant must have strong organizational skills; attention to detail; the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a research team; good interpersonal skills; and the ability to communicate clearly with team members and the PI.
