JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS The Department of Plant Science at Penn State is seeking a motivated and dependable student worker to support research in golf course turfgrass management. This position offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in turfgrass science, with a focus on improving environmental stress tolerance and turf health. Job Duties: Assist with the management and maintenance of turfgrass research plots on golf course settings. Apply chemical pesticides and fertilizers as directed, following all safety protocols. Conduct research experiments related to turfgrass health, performance, and stress tolerance. Collect, process, and record data on turfgrass growth, health, and environmental responses. Work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and graduate students to set up, monitor, and maintain experiments. The Kitchen produces tightly controlled meals and diets for research studies conducted at Penn State. The position involves preparing, cooking, and packing research meals and snacks according to standard protocols and recipes. In addition, the position involves engaging with research participants to provide instructions and assess adherence to the research protocol, research-related administrative tasks, and data entry. The position also involves supervision of undergraduate student research assistants. We seek candidates that are proactive, task- orientated, attentive to detail, and have excellent communication and organizational skills. Prior experiences in customer service or hospitality a plus, but a positive attitude, love of food and a willingness to learn and work as an individual or as part of a team depending on the task is the main requirement. Like many tropical regions, Madagascar's mid-high elevation rainforest is climatically favorable to Bd (Lötters et al. 2008). Bd has spread rapidly around the world, so it is likely only a matter of time before a lethal strain of the pathogen reaches Madagascar. The over-arching goal of this research is to proactively develop disease mitigation strategies, such as skin probiotics, for amphibian conservation. To accomplish this, we have established a colony of Madagascar frogs, representing 14 species. Currently, we are working to develop effective ways to captively-breed selected species, maintain tadpoles and produce viable froglets. By producing additional individuals, we can conduct experimental work to identify effective probiotic therapies for Madagascar frogs. In addition, we are interested in observing and recording breeding behaviors for these under-studied species. The Bletz Lab is seeking undergraduate student(s) to assist with multiple aspects of this work, particularly the captive breeding of the frogs in our amphibian colony. JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS The Forage Crop Systems Laboratory seeks an hourly-waged part-time research assistant within the Department of Plant Science at The Pennsylvania State University. Typical duties for a research assistant will include compiling research data, screening data quality, conducting preliminary analysis, conducting a literature review, and writing manuscripts. The research assistant will focus on the Stubble Height project conclusion with one journal article published under the leadership of Guojie Wang, the Principal Investigator, in the Forage Crop Systems Laboratory. Upon completion of the Stubble Height project, the research assistant will focus on historical data from all forage variety trials at Penn State, work on data requisition and visualization, and publish several extension fact sheets as outcomes. While working on the publications, the research assistant will also assist Guojie Wang with the NESARE funding application by organizing brainstorming meetings, project planning, and proposal construction. The publication and funding application will take approximately 15 hours per week. The research assistant will support the implementation of agronomic and ecological field experiments on perennial forage crops and annual cover crops. The research assistant is expected to ensure the safe operation of specialized equipment, collect data by measurement, sampling, and subjective assessments to evaluate forage crops, and prepare plant tissue and soil samples for lab analysis. The fieldwork will take approximately 5 hours per week. Applicants with a master's degree in agronomy, animal science, plant science, soil science, biology, agriculture, bioengineering, biotechnology, microbiology, or a related field are encouraged to apply. Experience with farm equipment and fieldwork is desired. The successful candidate will work up to 20 hours/week, starting on November 1, 2025, or at a later date. The work location is at Russell E. Larson Agricultural Research Center in Rock Springs, central PA, and University Park, PA; relocation and housing are not provided. JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS: Penn State's Center for Energy Law and Policy is seeking multiple research assistants for Summer 2025 and Academic Year 2025-2026, to support a variety of interdisciplinary research projects and are open to students in any degree program and at any level (undergraduate, professional or graduate programs) or previous students needing experience, such as those staying on optional practical training . Research assistant positions will vary in length depending on the project. Selected candidates will work with an interdisciplinary faculty, staff attorney, and student team from law, economics, engineering and public policy. Each research assistant will have an assigned faculty mentor but will be expected to interact with other project students and faculty through regular conference calls and discussions. For Summer 2025 in particular, some successful candidates will be assigned to participate in research teams investigating law and policy related to sustainable aviation fuel, renewable natural gas, and/or off-grid community development. Applications will be reviewed by project faculty participating and should include the following: Degree program, GPA and scheduled date of graduation for current students, and all applicants should submit short paragraph on research interests and internship objectives. Selected recipients will receive an internship with an appointment of up to 10 hours per week at a wage of $14 per hour.
