POSITION SPECIFICS The Materials Research Institute (MRI) at Penn State seeks outstanding applicants for a Postdoctoral Scholar position focused on metalorganic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD) growth and characterization of transition metal dichalcogenides and related two-dimensional (2D) materials. The postdoctoral position is part of the National Science Foundation funded 2D Crystal Consortium (2DCC) Materials Innovation Platform national facility at Penn State. The 2DCC is focused on the development of 2D layered chalcogenide films and bulk crystals for applications in next-generation devices. The goal of the platform is to advance the synthesis science of 2D layered chalcogenides and provide individuals at universities, federal laboratories and industry with the equipment infrastructure and human capital to conceive, research, and develop the next generation of materials systems to maintain the United States' pre-eminence in electronic material, device, and component technology. Education and Experience: • Ph.D. in Physics, Materials Science and Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemistry or a closely related field, a strong record of related research and experience maintaining and operating thin film deposition equipment. • Specific experience with MOCVD growth of compound semiconductors, oxides and/or chalcogenide thin films is a plus. • This position requires excellent organizational, time management and communication skills and the ability to work in an interdisciplinary team environment in support of the goals of in-house research and external users of the 2DCC. Position responsibilities: • Performing world-leading 2D materials synthesis research aligned to the goals of the 2DCC, including both in-house research and collaboration with external users of the 2DCC facility. • Rich opportunities will be available for innovative equipment and process development, advanced materials characterization and deep collaborations with theoretical/computational efforts focused on materials growth. • To present results at technical conferences and prepare manuscripts for submission. The postdoctoral scholar will also assist with operations in the MOCVD facility, including equipment upkeep, data management, communications with users, preparation of reports for research sponsors, and scientific outreach to the broader community. POSITION SPECIFICS The Huck Institutes of the Life Sciences seeks an outstanding scientist to fill a Postdoctoral Scholar position in the research group of Dr Vidhi Pareek. Our lab studies how cells organize their metabolism through enzyme complexes and their interaction with cellular organelles. We combine mass spectrometry imaging, biochemistry, structural biology, and cell biology to examine metabolism in single cells, tissues, and animal models. Our current projects focus on metabolic heterogeneity and pathological drivers in cancer. Education and Experience: We're looking for someone who brings both technical expertise and creative thinking to the lab. The ideal candidate will have earned their Ph.D. in Medicinal Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chemistry, Biochemistry or a closely related field. Your doctoral work should demonstrate a strong focus on developing methods and workflows for mass spectrometry imaging, particularly as applied to single cells, tissues, or organoids. Expertise in post-acquisition analysis is essential. If you also bring experience in cell culture, tissue micro-dissection, or fluorescence imaging, these skills would be valuable additions to our team. The Department of Materials Science and Engineering is looking for a postdoctoral scholar. This research project will design, fabricate, and characterize ferroelectric and piezoelectric modified wurtzite nitride thin films and device stacks with exquisite structural and chemical fidelity. The team will pursue stand-alone thin films as well as layered stacks, as well as nanofabricated resonator structures. We seek a postdoctoral researcher who will pursue these project goals by conducting the following activities: (1) Synthesize thin film nitride piezoelectric and ferroelectric films using sputter deposition instrumentation. (2) Perform physical characterization on thin films and stacked layers to quantify physical structure, crystal structure, chemical composition, morphology, thickness, and stress states. (3) Lead nanofabrication efforts to generate nanofabricated MEMS resonators. (4) Perform temperature, voltage, and frequency dependent properties of nitride films and devices and their component layers. (5) Document, interpret, and organize all data from depositions, characterizations, and property measurements. (6) Organize all data and learning into scientific manuscripts, quarterly reports, and presentations. (7) Coordinate the collective effort of a four research group team at Penn State. The goal of this research program is to develop and apply advanced computational and machine learning approaches to understand how genetic variation shapes neurodevelopmental phenotypes across molecular, cellular, circuit, and behavioral levels. The postdoctoral scholar will lead efforts to develop and implement machine learning and statistical frameworks for the integrative analysis of quantitative behavioral data, brain imaging datasets, single-cell RNA-sequencing, and spatial transcriptomics generated from large-scale mouse model studies. The position offers the opportunity to work in a highly collaborative, interdisciplinary environment at the interface of bioinformatics, computer science, neuroscience, and human genetics, with close interaction among experimental and computational teams. Education and Experience Applicants should hold a PhD in bioinformatics, computer science, computational biology, neuroscience, statistics, engineering, or a related field. Required qualifications include strong expertise in computational data analysis and statistics, with a high level of motivation to work with high-dimensional biological datasets. Key Responsibilities: Develop and optimize analytical methods for quantifying emerging contaminants (e.g., PFAS, microplastics, pharmaceuticals, pesticides) in water, soil, plant tissue, and other environmental and biological media. Operate and maintain advanced instrumentation such as LC-MS/MS, GC-MS, CIC, Pyrolysis-GC/MS, and LDIR. Perform sample preparation, extraction, and cleanup for complex matrices and analysis from multiple systems (e.g., agroecosystems, aquatic ecosystems, ecological habitats). Conduct data processing and interpretation, including QA/QC procedures, statistical analysis, and reporting. Collaborate on research addressing fate, transport, and health impacts of emerging contaminants in interconnected systems. Knowledge of data processing software including Chromeleon, TraceFinder, Compound Discoverer, and Clarity is a plus. Lead and contribute to publications, presentations, and proposals related to analytical method development and environmental contaminant monitoring. Responsibilities include: Designing, building, and testing innovative designs for a catheter-based cold plasma source. Interaction with other design collaborators including clinicians to optimize design and operation, and veterinary staff for planning and conduct of small animal experiments. Mentorship of undergraduate and graduate students in plasma experiments and biomedical device design. Lead weekly project meetings. Publication of scholarly manuscripts of research results and presentations at national or international conferences and local symposia. Involvement in preparing project reports for submission to the funding agency and future grant applications. The post-doctoral scholar will be mentored by a diverse array of faculty members from engineering design, biomedical engineering, surgery, and clinicians, and provided opportunities for professional development in order to place them in a strong position for future academic or industry positions. Required experience or capabilities in: material biocompatibility in the cardiovascular system; nanosecond pulsed high-voltage engineering; electrical safety standards (IEC and/or AAMI); cell culture and assay techniques (mammalian and bacterial); prototype/test/iterate; high-speed imaging; mentorship of undergraduate and graduate students; demonstrated cross-disciplinary collaboration. AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS: Job Description A postdoctoral scholar position is available in the Computational Electromagnetics and Antennas Research Laboratory (CEARL) in the Electrical Engineering Department at The Pennsylvania State University. This position involves the development and application of numerical analysis approaches using Machine Learning based multi-physics tools for predictive modeling, high-dimensional optimization, uncertainty quantification, forward and inverse design, including the development of Digital Twin components, under the supervision of Prof. Douglas H. Werner. The objective of this work will be to support a large multidisciplinary team effort focused on the design, modeling, and fabrication of advanced RFIC Phased Array Antenna Systems (Ka-Band and W-Band) and associated Power Converters. The postdoctoral scholar is expected to work in a highly collaborative environment in which electrical engineers, mechanical engineers, material/data scientists, and thermal engineers will collaborate to develop the next generation of microelectronics manufacturing. Requirements Applicants must have a PhD in electrical engineering by the start date with a strong focus in electromagnetics. The candidates must have expertise in computational electromagnetics, RFIC phased array antenna design, and machine learning. This is a term appointment funded for one year from the date of hire, with additional years of funding available if there is mutual interest. JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS: The Penn State University Northeast Center of Excellence for Pavement Technology (NECEPT) is seeking a Postdoctoral Scholar to assist with supervision of research projects related to pavement materials. NECEPT is a center under the Larson Transportation Institute, within the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Penn State's College of Engineering. NECEPT conducts pavement materials research, as well as the technician certification programs and related training courses for Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, in the areas of asphalt and concrete pavements and aggregates. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Supervising and mentoring research conducted by graduate students. Data analysis. Writing technical reports to research project sponsors. Developing novel and innovative research papers. Developing collaborative research with Penn State faculty. Writing research grant proposals. Requirements and Qualifications: The Postdoctoral Scholar must have PhD in Civil Engineering, with focus on asphalt pavement materials research. In addition, the successful candidate must have demonstrated sufficient knowledge and experience with performance testing, sustainability, and recycling through well-established journal publications. The Postdoctoral Scholar must have a strong knowledge of asphalt mixtures, asphalt binders, and characterization techniques and testing of pavement materials. Excellent verbal and written communication skills and excellent presentation skills are also required. Additional Information: This is a term appointment, funded for one year from date of hire.
