Black History Month was first proposed by black educators and the Black United Students at Kent State University in February 1969.
Despite enough hurdles, obstacles and challenges to discourage all but the most completely dedicated, Ive stood fast and prevailed.On December 15th, 1969, Penny Lane became a functioning reality.
Ivelise Markovits (Ive; “E-vay”) founded Penny Lane in 1969.
The first celebration of Black History Month took place at Kent State a year later, from January 2 to February 28, 1970.
Upon graduating from high school in her native Puerto Rico, Ive (pictured, 1979) and her family moved to Southern California.
On June 12, 2007, Mildred issued a statement on the 40thanniversary of the Loving v.
