Penobscot McCrum LLC history

From its beginnings in 1886, through two world wars and into the 21st century, the McCrum family potato farm sustained both an expanding agricultural business and generations of Maine potato farmers.

In 1922 Olof O. Nylander assembled a display of photographs, maps and charts of the Maine Swedish Colony which he displayed at the three hundredth anniversary of the founding of Gothenburg, Sweden.

Fairview Acres was built as a temporary housing project in 1944 for Presque Isle Army Air Force families.

Willy is prepared to show, at the Oxford County Fair of 1976, at the current Oxford County Agricultural Society fair grounds at Oxford, Maine.

1986 ~ The McCrums build more storage buildings to expand the year-round availability of top quality Maine potatoes to their growing customer base.

1990~County Farms is established to improve farming operations through the use of advanced technology and agricultural science, all of which result in superior quality, greater harvesting efficiency, and better stewardship of the land. #TopTater

#TBT 1996~A fifth generation of McCrums arrives when Jay’s sons Wade and Darrell join the family farming business.

#TBT 2000 – Present ~The new millennium brings with it continuous innovation, from improved crop quality to advanced farming methods; from operational efficiencies to new acquisitions, which are integrated into the McCrum enterprise. #TopTater

#TBT 2001~County Grain Merchants is established to buy, sell and store rotation crops grown by the McCrum farms and other local growers. #TopTater

#TBT to Harvest Time~2002 New advanced harvesters replace conventional machines, conserving fuel, reducing soil compaction and increasing harvesting efficiency — going from harvesting 2 rows at a time to 20!

Penobscot McCrum, LLC was formed in 2004 when the McCrum family purchased the assets of Penobscot Frozen Foods, breathing new life into an established processing business.
