The Bank opened for business on May 22, 1917, with a capital stock of $25,000 and deposits of $1,495.00.
Founded in 1917, it was at first a State Bank known as Peoples Bank of LaFollette, Tennessee.
Mildred Childress Reynolds (David Reynolds' daughter-in-law) joined the bank in the summer of 1932.
Founded in 1951, the bank has seven full-service banking offices in Anderson County.
Peoples Bank was founded as People’s Bank Marycrest with its first location opening in the Marycrest neighborhood on East Court Street in May, 1962.
In December 1963, John T. Reynolds was elected President.
Truly a family business, Romy’s son, Jerry Hammes has served as the bank’s Chairman since 1980.
The Valley Office in rural LaFollette followed it in 1982.
Why? When the bank updated its corporate logo in 1991 the apostrophe was excluded in deference to a more streamlined logo and to make room for its change to include “of Kankakee County”.
Lastly, the Bank grew into Anderson County and opened the Norris/Clinton office in 1994.
In 1999, the Bank's main office moved to a new 15,200 square foot facility constructed beside the previous main office building located in the main business district of LaFollette.
Peoples Bank opened its fifth location in Oneida on June 25, 2007.
On December 30, 2011, the Bank closed its Valley Office after 29 years.
The bank celebrated its fiftieth anniversary in 2012 by planting 50 trees throughout the community.
