Peoria Production Shop began as a vision of Doctor Maxim Pollak, the medical director and superintendent of the Peoria Municipal Tuberculosis Sanitarium who founded the organization in 1941 with a $500 loan to buy sewing machines and rent the upper floor of the building at 408 S. Adams St
After being located in various spots in Peoria Heights, a permanent building (7,500 sq. ft.) was constructed at 1327 East Kelly Avenue in 1963.
The company built a 10,000-square-foot facility at 920 E. Glen Ave. in 1965 and remained there until the current location opened.
An addition was constructed in 1968 to increase office and work space.
Bonnie Welch is one of hundreds of current employees at the 130,000-square-foot facility that was built in 1998 and one of thousands who have worked for the company since its inception with a unique mission 75 years ago.
Several months of extensive remodeling created a new 18,000 sq. ft. library that opened on February 29, 2000.
