IHLS seeks a part-time Courier Driver for our Carbondale hub location to help support our member libraries.
This position is scheduled less than 20 hours a week, from around 5 a.m. to 2 p.m., two days a week (Monday through Friday). The specific two days will vary depending on business needs.
The position is paid at $17.34 an hour.
Summary:
The IHLS Courier Driver position delivers books, other library materials and equipment to and from member libraries or other designated locations based on a prescribed daily route, while ensuring safe and proper lifting and driving practices. Sorting as well as loading and unloading library materials into the delivery vehicle also may be required.
Requirements
Education and Experience:
High school graduate or GED equivalent.
3-year driver's license holder
Must be 25 years of age or older to be on the corporate auto insurance

•Ability to frequently lift tubs of books and other library materials.
•Ability to drive daily on established routes and follow established laws and safe driving procedures.

Working Conditions:
Most of the work is performed driving a van and assisting in the delivery and pick up of library materials. Occasionally may encounter rain, snow, or ice. Sorting and loading of library materials may occur indoors and outdoors in an office and distribution center environment.
Physical Requirements:
• This position requires extensive periods of sitting while driving up to 400 miles daily. It also requires repetitive use of arms and legs and moving the whole body, such as standing, climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, reaching, pushing, grasping, hearing, and talking.
• Requires ability to shelve materials up to a height of 6 feet and/or bending to ground-level while sorting items by library code.
• Requires the ability to exert up to 40 pounds of force frequently to life, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move object, including but not limited to books, tubs, or bags of library materials.
• As part of your responsibilities, you will need to transport tubs containing books and other materials weighing up to 40 pounds. This involves moving the tubs approximately 50 feet. On an average day, you'll handle 50 tubs, each of which needs to be loaded and unloaded four separate times at various locations.
• Ability to effectively use a computer and check emails.

Under general supervision, the purpose of this position is to perform routine pick-up and delivery tasks in the receipt and distribution of administrative documents, materials and packages to school district locations. Performs pre-trip inspections to determine roadworthiness of assigned delivery vehicle; adheres to established preventive maintenance and service schedules; maintains vehicle service and mileage logs.
Maintains route time and delivery schedule consisting of 20-40 stops per day. Routes may change due to, but not limited to road conditions or changes in the number and location of stops.
Maintains documentation such as logs/records detailing trip times, delivery tickets, time sheets, mail received and delivered, and other items loaded into and out of vehicle
Performs various functions in supporting efficient operations, i.e., package preparation, labeling and preparing for shipment, etc.
Responsible for keeping up to date on current technology, as job appropriate, being used by OCPS. With the support of the district, attends training to ensure skill level in various technologies is at the level required to perform in current position.

JOB SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the AVP Office of Grants and Sponsored Programs (PI of the grant). Responsible for driving the Mobile Food Laboratory (MFL) to and from education programs for students in the K-12 educational environment at participating schools. The MFL's home base is at the Meadowlands Environment Center (MEC). She/he drives the MFL and facilitates the set- up/take- down for programs for educators and other special programs as required. The MFL is a mobile classroom that only has students and educators on board when it is parked and being used for educational programming; when on the road the only person on board is the driver.
This is a part-time position. The hourly rate is $20/hr. Hours of work and days will be defined by the supervisor.
Qualifications
DUTIES:
Drives the Mobile Food Lab from its home base at the Meadowlands Environment Center (MEC) to participating schools and back to the MEC.
Facilitate the set-up of educational programming for the MFL educators upon arrival at the location of the program.
Facilitate the take-down of educational programming for the MFL educators upon completion of activities at the location of the program.
Responsible for fueling the MFL and the on-board generator.
Consults with supervisor on a regular basis to report problems with the MFL, and to resolve problems.
Establishes liaison and maintains cooperative working relationships with MEC staff whose functions impact on assigned responsibilities. These include MFL educators, Assistant Directors, School District Coordinator and the NJMC.
Wear designated uniform shirts when presenting a program to school groups and the public.
EDUCATION:
Graduation from high school or equivalency as determined by the appointing authority. Applicants who do not possess the required education may substitute required experience on a year-for-year basis.
EXPERIENCE

JOB DESCRIPTION: The following statements of essential functions and responsibilities are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by individuals assigned to this position. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Safely transport students to and from school, following established routes and schedules.
Conduct pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections to ensure bus safety and proper operation.
Maintain order and discipline on the bus, ensuring the safety of all students.
Assist students with boarding and exiting the bus, as well as crossing streets safely.
Communicate effectively with parents, school staff, and transportation supervisors.
Report any incidents, delays, or mechanical issues to the appropriate authorities.
Follow all traffic laws, state and federal regulations, and district policies and procedures.
Keeps assigned bus clean inside and out on a daily basis, including: cleaning and dusting driver's area, picking up paper, sweeping interior floor, cleaning and checking seats, and cleaning interior/exterior windows
Attend training sessions and safety meetings as required.
Provide transportation for field trips, extracurricular activities, and athletic events as needed.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Exposure to varying weather conditions, including driving in rain, snow, or extreme temperatures.
Ability to sit for extended periods while operating the bus.
Requires lifting, pushing, or pulling up to 50 pounds, especially when assisting students.
Evening, weekend, and holiday hours may be required for activities, athletic events, and field trips.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 176 day calendar
