Associate plays a pivotal role in the HR Team by providing timely day-to-day support to Associates at all levels of our organization. The HR Generalist is a team player committed to the success of the HR Team and Perdue Transportation, Fleet Maintenance, Logistics, Distribution, and Customer Service that champions growth, development and implementation of new processes and technology. Position is onsite in Salisbury, MD - other locations may be considered. **Principal and Essential Duties & Responsibilities** + Participates in the resolution of conflict in the workplace, address Associate concerns promptly, conduct investigations, and foster a harmonious team-oriented environment. + Provides coaching and counseling to supervisory personnel to improve the supervisors' ability to effectively direct their workforce. + Ensures consistent policy application in the resolution of issues addressed, provides training to supervisory personnel on policies and procedures. + Assists with or manages the orientation of new hires including employee data entry and maintenance. Schedules, conducts, facilitates, audits, and identifies new methods to improve new hire orientation. Manages onboarding for leaders in your assigned departments including culture, training, and company information. + Assist with recruitment and pre-employment. Achieves measurable results that demonstrate improvement in hiring ratio (applicants vs. hires). Develop a talent pipeline within the region as the employer of choice and develop the necessary contacts/community relationships (Vo-Tech Schools, State Agencies, DOL, etc.). Creates new, innovative methods to improve the recruitment process to continually improve the experience and skill set of applicants. Makes recommendations to management for approval, implements, measures, audits and reports results to management. + Provides support in the areas of: Benefits, Compensation, Evaluations & Goal Setting, Training & Development, Recruiting, and Turnover & Retention through the Associate life cycle. + Identify training needs, coordinate workshops, design or partner to, facilitate and/ or support development opportunities. Provides mentorship and feedback to Associates and Leaders that leads to skill development in their current or future role. + Manage Peer, Management, and IRB Review processes for assigned departments. + Identifies, designs, trains, implements, and audits new methods to reduce turnover. + Identifies, develops, implements, evaluates, measures, and improves the recruiting process for non-exempt and exempt positions. Responsible for the recruiting process required to maintain the required associate staffing as directed by Operations (i.e. Drivers, Fleet Technicians, Maintenance Mechanics, Leaders, etc.). **Education and Experience** **Required:** Bachelor's degree and/or equivalent related work experience in Human Resources, Business Administration. 3-5 years of Human Resources experience. Proven knowledge of laws surrounding recruiting/ pre-employment, ADA, EEOC, DOL, and OFCCP. Proven track record of innovative methods to recruit the targeted workforce and creative methods to recruit that resulted in turnover reduction. Ability to think ahead and plan over a 1-to-3-year time span. Must be able to multi-task and organize multiple protocols and projects and completed on schedule. Requires strong analytical skills: analyze and resolve problems at both a strategic and functional level. Must have knowledge of and ability to provide strong customer service along with the ability to communicate to all levels of the organization and a commitment to excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Requires knowledge of and a commitment to team performance, effective coaching and demonstrated skills or a strong team player. Requires regular travel to other facilities and plants for meetings and/or Company business. At times travel may be 50% to meet business needs. **Preferred** : HR experience in transportation, warehousing, or logistics. **Compensation** The salary range for this position is $63,000.00 - $79,000.00 per year, based on experience and qualifications with annual bonus available (variable depending on performance). In addition to the base salary, Perdue offers a competitive benefits package, including medical/Rx, 401(k) with employer match after 1 year, critical illness, accident insurance, dental, vision, life insurance, optional group life insurance, short-term and long-term disability protection, flexible spending accounts and paid time off. **Environmental Factors and Physical Requirements** Position is mostly sedentary but may require occasional moving to other offices or buildings. May need to move light equipment or supplies from one place to another. May need to access files, supplies and equipment. When in a plant environment: Exposure primarily consists of wet and moist floors which include metal and plastic grating surfaces. May be exposed to temperatures of 28 degrees to 100 degrees Fahrenheit with both ambient and 100% humidity. May handle product 25 degrees to 50 degrees Fahrenheit. May be exposed to noise ranges of 50 db. to 110 db. May be exposed to all chemicals used in poultry, food, processing facility. Other weekly duties will include conducting interviews, investigations, sharing HR-Related information, handling terminations, making public appearances, and ensuring all farm level health plan data is properly sent to the office. The farm level manager must also fulfill the role of strategic labor planner - ensuring that and adequate labor staff is employed at the farm to fulfill daily needs. All duties are to be performed in an exemplary and professional manner. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: * Function as the main office HR representative at the farm level - this will include all HR responsibilities that are conducted at the plant level. Such duties will include conducting interviews hiring, disciplinary issues, insurance and payroll forms/necessary paperwork, and audits. * Assist office staff in all training conducted at the farm level - safety, lockout/tag-out, software systems, managerial, etc. * Assist the complex manager with farm managerial duties. These duties are not limited to answering phones, but may include errand-running, memos, farm level employee meetings, benefits and incentives for employees, and work with governmental agencies. * Coordinate all employee data in regards to company health plans - health, life, and disability - this will include enrolling employees, answering questions, communicating data to and from the office, and ensuring accuracy of all data. * Assist the complex manager and other farm managers with investigations and employee disciplinary actions - this will include being present in all meetings (whether attendance related meetings or policy issue meetings,) and ensuring that all witnesses are interviewed thoroughly, all testimonies are documented, and that the incident is investigated confidentially and is communicated in such a manner to the office HR staff and personnel director. * Assist the main HR office in ensuring all plant level employees and supervisors are following governmental agency regulations. * Assist the safety and quality control directors with investigations and farm level audits. * Assist the with labor efficiency issues - conduct research into excessive hours, overtime, etc. * In other administrative areas, the HR manager will assist the office HR staff in ensuring that all farm staff are abiding by labor laws - wage and hour laws, child labor laws, discriminatory laws. It is the responsibility of the HR manager to ensure that ANY potential violation of these laws is communicated to the office and handled thoroughly at the farm level. * Assist the complex manager with public relations events and appearances throughout the year. * Act as a strategic labor planner - ensure that labor staff on site is adequate to fulfill the needs of the plant. This will require a pro-active approach to prevent an inadequate staff. * Assist the department manager and personnel director with special projects. QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS: * High school diploma is required. College level training in business, communication or human resources is desired. * Being fluent in English and Spanish is desired. * Experience in payroll and human resources software systems is desired. * Previous management experience in any business sector is preferred. * Must have a working knowledge of Microsoft programs, such as MS Excel, MS Word, MS PowerPoint etc. * Must be capable of giving oral and written presentations. * Must be capable of working in an agricultural environment. * Capable of working long hours if needed to complete special projects. * Possess excellent teamwork skills - must be willing to assist with other areas as needed by the Vice-President of Personnel. * Ability to handle multiple tasks at once - the ability to deal with stressful situations and still get the job complete. * Ability to treat co-workers and managers with respect and courtesy. We are looking for an individual who can execute corporate HR policies, procedures, and trainings in an agricultural setting. The optimal candidate will be detailed-oriented, organized, poised, drive culture, communicates well, understands confidentiality, able to follow policies and procedures, and able to work independently with oversight from the HR Manager in Colorado. The position is based in Salinas, CA with weekly travel to additional CA facilities as they come online, and quarterly travel to Colorado. This position reports to the HR Manager. Core hours are 8-4:30 M-F with some evening and weekend work. Accuracy, customer service, detail-oriented skills are a must. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Provides HR policy guidance. First point of contact for HR related questions related to leaves of absence, benefits, payroll, policies, worker's comp, etc. Implements corporate HR strategies, policies, and procedures at California facilities. Manages and resolves complex employee relations issues. Drives company culture and employee morale throughout California operations Works closely with management and employees to improve work relationships, build morale, and increase productivity and retention. Conducts weekly meetings with respective business units. Conducts effective, thorough and objective investigations under the direction of HR Manager. Identifies and administers training needs for business units. Participates in evaluation and monitoring of training programs to ensure success. Follows up to ensure training objectives are met. Delivers reports to HR Manager. Collects and maintains all personnel records in designated corporate systems. Administers the performance review process and ensures all supervisors are complying. Works closely with the managers and Corporate HR Manager to ensure safety compliance at CA facilities. Maintains accurate time keeping records for the CA managers' approval, including the FLC. Manages the FLC contractor with guidance and oversite from operations site manager and HR Manager. Ensures compliance with local, state, and federal laws and regulations, specifically CA. Knowledge and understanding of OSHA, CalOSHA, and other safety regulatory bodies. Continually staying informed and up-to-date of all local and state regulatory changes; notifying HR Manager of all relevant changes. Performs new hire orientation, supervisor orientation, exit interviews, etc. for California operations. Assists corporate recruiter with California hiring. Develops content and provides standard information for the monthly employee newsletter. Other duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to comprehend, interpret, and apply the appropriate sections of applicable laws, guidelines, regulations, ordinances, and policies. Ability to acquire a thorough understanding of the organization's hierarchy, jobs, qualifications, compensation practices, and the administrative practices related to those factors. Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software. Minimum of 5 years of experience resolving complex employee relations issues. Working knowledge of multiple human resource disciplines, including compensation practices, organizational diagnosis, employee and union relations, diversity, performance management, and federal and state respective employment laws. Bachelor's degree required or 8+ years of relevant experience Driver's license required with clean MVR Able to work in the United States Able to pass a background screen PHYSICAL DEMANDS / WORKING CONDITIONS Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times. Must be able to access and navigate each department at the organization's facilities.
