POSITION HOURS: 8:00am - 5:00pm

SUMMARY

In cooperation with the Director of Women s and Children s Services, and the Medical Directors, Obstetrical, Newborn and Neonatal Services and their staffs, The Perinatal Safety Nurse will oversee the development, implementation, management, and evaluation of a comprehensive interdisciplinary Perinatal Quality program. They will also ensure that patient safety is considered the number one priority above cost, productivity and convenience in all decisions that affect patients. Lastly, The Perinatal Safety Nurse will maintain knowledge of national standards and guidelines for care as well as the principles and practice of safety science.

The Patient Safety Department is a team of roughly 15-20 employees, led by the Elliot Patient Safety Officer (PSO) who oversees all aspects of the patient safety system. This department is committed to nurturing components of a culture of safety, preventing infection, and to making patient care continually safer by reducing harm and preventable mortality. The team focuses on innovations that create a system of safety across the organization.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Serves as a patient safety advocate and clinical role model in obstetrics
  • Sentinel Event and Adverse Event Report Case Analysis
  • Loss Prevention and Analysis
  • Coordination/Consultation/Interdepartmental Liaison Activities

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/LICENSURE

Education: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. Master of Science in Nursing required.

Experience: Minimum of three (3) years current experience in obstetrics.

Practice: At a clinical level that reflects proficiency and in-depth knowledge of nursing practice. Membership in AWHONN required.

Certification/Licensure:

  • License to practice as a registered nurse in the state of NH required.
  • Life support authorization (BLS, ACLS, etc.) appropriate to patient population required.
  • EFM certification required.
  • Professional OB certification strongly preferred.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

Schedule: Work schedule may include 8-12 hours per day with weekend/holiday coverage based on individual unit needs. Personnel are expected to cover for absences by rotating, working extra shifts, or use of on-call as needed. Nursing personnel are assigned to one area upon employment but may be required to assume assignments in other areas to meet patient needs.
