The Behavioral Health Specialist works closely with the primary care provider, behavioral health care managers, integrated behavioral health care navigators, and a consulting psychiatrist to revise the wellness/treatment plan when patients are not improving, and offer alternatives as needed to support treatment. The Behavioral Health Specialist will evaluate, assess, and support the patient in the office, their home, and community as needed. The Behavioral Health Specialist will utilize patient centered, family focused therapy using a variety of treatment modalities such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Solution Focused therapy.
QUALIFICATIONS
Master's degree in social work, psychology, human services, or related field.
Licensed in the state of Pennsylvania. At least two years of experience as a Behavioral Health Specialist (LCSW, LPC, and/or Psychologist).
Minimum two years of counseling related experience.
Capacity to work with families in a confidential, respectful, caring, professional manner.
Competency in Spanish Language ability (spoken/written) preferred.

PRIMARY DUTIES:
Respond to crisis contacts (phone, text or chat): greeting clients, using active listening, and establishing rapport by being accepting, empathetic, objective, non-judgmental, non-directive, and responsive to the feelings of the callers or texter.
Explore the person in crisis experiences and feelings using feeling oriented, responsive language; following established protocols; identifying warning signs; and assessing the degree of safety and risk.
Provide confidential contacts and ensure that any information shared by the person in crisis is kept confidential.
Provide referrals to appropriate resources; engage 9-1-1 for emergency medical treatment and/or police intervention, using required assessments and policy guidance.
Accurately document crisis contact interactions in correct contact reports.
Participate in educational opportunities provided by and through HopeLink to stay current on job-related knowledge; a minimum of 5 hours of refresher training post initial 120+-hour training is .
Complete administrative tasks as assigned by the Shift Supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Demonstrated knowledge and ability to make sound decisions under pressure.
Understanding of confidentiality and privacy issues within a crisis center program.
High degree of empathy toward the people we serve and demonstrated knowledge of distress tolerance and coping skills.
PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS:
Respond to crisis contacts in a professional manner following established protocols.
Maintain the confidentiality and privacy of information provided by persons in crisis.
Respond to clients in way that is accepting, empathetic, objective, non-judgmental, non-directive and responsive to the feelings of callers.
Adhere to the assigned shift schedule and follow program procedures when requesting coverage for an assigned shift.
Complete contact reports for each interaction by the end of each contact.
Attend and participate in scheduled staff meetings and supervision.
Fulfill the required minimum of at least 5 hours of refresher training post initial 120+-hour training.

Respond within established timelines to MRSS dispatch calls and provide in-person or telehealth support.
Manage mental health emergencies in a culturally responsive manner to support clients in a framework and manner that acknowledges their unique and intersecting personal and cultural identities.
Collaborate with clinical staff to assess crisis situations, identify strengths and needs, and participate in crisis de-escalation.
Support the development and implementation of individualized short-term stabilization plans in partnership with the youth, family, and clinical team.
Assist families in identifying natural supports and navigating access to community-based behavioral health services and resources.
Provide psychoeducation, behavioral coaching, and skill-building interventions to youth and caregivers.
Participate in regular follow-up and stabilization support for up to 30 days post-crisis.
Maintain timely and accurate documentation of service delivery in compliance with Medicaid and OhioMHAS regulations.
Comply with workflows and data collection requirements for MRSS and Crisis services
Engage in required training and supervision to maintain fidelity to MRSS service model and agency standards.
Meet with Supervisor for weekly supervision.

Education/Experience:
Associate's degree or minimum of three years of experience in behavioral health setting working with youth and families. Bachelor's degree in a related field preferred.
Must meet qualifications for a Qualified Behavioral Health Specialist (QBHS) per Ohio Administrative Code.
Experience working in youth-serving systems (e.g. behavioral health, child welfare, juvenile justice, etc.)
Relevant experience or course of study in behavioral healthcare helpful.
