Summary of Position: Under the direction and supervision of a licensed nurse, assists residents with activities of daily living and personalcare to maximize independence, freedom of choice and quality of life.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Provides assistance with essential activities of daily living and personalcare to residents based on age, needs and abilities of the resident:
*bathing;
*dressing and undressing;
*ambulating;
*toileting;
*assistance with meals and nourishment's;
*personal hygiene (shaving, dental hygiene, nail, hair and foot care);
*transferring using proper body mechanics and appropriate assistive devices; and
*care of ADL devices such as eyeglasses and hearing aids
2. Provides assistance with instrumental activities of daily living to residents based on age, needs and abilities of the resident:
*placing and/or receiving telephone calls;
*performing light housekeeping tasks such as vacuuming, emptying trash, cleaning
bathroom, bed making and bed changes;
*assisting with laundry;
*escorting the resident and coordinating internal transportation needs; and
*assisting with mail delivery and correspondence
3. Medication Assistance:
*assists the resident with self-administration of medications, through cueing only
4. Health Maintenance and Monitoring Tasks:
*observes and reports changes in the residents' physical condition and
cognitive/emotional status to ALSA Supervisor or Director of Assisted Living Services,
as needed;
*conducts room checks on resident rounds;
*monitors for environmental safety hazards;
*records incidents, errors or accidents; and
*records resident and resident related events
5. Dining:
*assists in a variety of tasks related to dining (escorting residents, set-up and clean-up,
serving meals)
6. Activity Program:
*responsible for participating in and supporting the resident centered activity program
7. Emergency Preparedness:
*responds to and acts appropriately in emergency or disaster situations
8. Performs other duties as required.
Leadership: *is a resident advocate at all times;
*follows policy concerning confidentiality;
*plans and completes duties with minimal direction from supervisor;
*works collaboratively with colleagues;
*uses tactful, diplomatic communication in potentially sensitive or
emotionally charged situations;
*follows up with appropriate staff, resident or others regarding reported
complaints, problems and concerns;
*acts as ambassador to guest and other off-campus visitors; and
*maintains certifications required for employment
Administrative: *completes required written documentation concerning resident care and
activities during shift
Other Duties: *demonstrates an appreciation of the heritage, values and wisdom of the
residents and an understanding of the aging process;
*attends and participates in staff, educational and committee meetings to
update knowledge, techniques, guidelines and regulations;
*assists with quality assurance programs; and
*assists with orientation and training of new staff
Minimum Qualifications:
Education: Post High School Vocational / Specialized Training
Experience: On the Job Training
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
Current State of Connecticut CNA certificate; CPR Certification preferred.

The Resident CareAssistant (RCA) performs personalcare and non-personalcareassistance to residents with activities of daily living in a manner that enhances the residents sense of personal choice and autonomy. PRINCIPLE DUTIES:
The RCA supports the residents personalcare needs to include but not limited to dressing, grooming, eating, bathing, positioning, turning, toileting and exercising.
Provides mobility support and escorts residents as needed.
Provides/assists with meal service in the dining room as needed taking orders, serving meals and clearing tables.
Assists with organizing and coordinating activities for the residents to see that their daily personal activity needs are met.
Organizes and maintains the residents unit by completing tasks such as resident personal laundry, changing bed linens, making bed, light housekeeping including dishes, cleaning out refrigerator and taking out trash to keep a clean and safe environment.
Accompanies residents on excursions or walks and spends time with them doing activities they enjoy.
Other duties as assigned by Supervisor.

The Animal Recovery Center recovers and rehabilitates animals admitted through NYPD and ASPCA's Humane Law Enforcement (HLE) and Community Engagement (CE) programs. This facility is dedicated to recovering and rehabilitating dogs and cats who have suffered physical and emotional trauma and delivers medical and behavioral interventions to prepare them for adoption or return to the owner when appropriate.
AICAs support the behavioral and medical recovery and rehabilitation of animals in the ARC by providing medical treatments and behavioral enrichment and interventions, including during all animal care activities. AICAs interact with animals during their recovery to detect potential problems or changes in their medical or behavioral progress and communicate those effectively to clinical professionals, administer medications, provide daily care, engage in behavioral enrichment activities, and document/maintain records of all activities. One of the most critical functions of this role is serving as a member of a team of medical, behavior and sheltering personnel, all dedicated to working together to provide holistic care for all our animals.

Assist in behavioral health evaluations, assessments, trainings, and other animal interventions.
Exercise and socialize animals and manage playgroups, under the direction and guidance of the ARC and CARE Behavior team. Abide by existing dog-walking programs and observe and report reactions with environmental events or human/animal interactions, and/or problems/changes in urination or defecation. Encourage healthy behaviors and interactions throughout, and reward animals appropriately.
Feed animals, provide clean water, and ensure a clean environment while interacting with animals to encourage and promote healthy behaviors, and detecting, logging, and reporting to the medical and behavior teams any irregularities or changes in animal nutrition, hydration, or behaviors (including responses to your interactions). Observing animals during these interactions is vital to the recognizing medical and behavioral changes/abnormalities early, maximizing the efficacy of potential treatments.
Monitor the comfort of shelter animals, looking for any signs of distress, anxiety, or physical ailments, and ensure that their physical environment is not resulting in discomfort (e.g., appropriate bedding (clean and fold laundry), space, adverse neighboring animals, including by maintaining the cleanliness of both animal enclosures and other workspaces that facilitate the arrival of new animals.
Always provide safe and smooth fear free handling of animals.
Monitor animal holding areas for appropriate music and/or auditory stimulation and report observations.
Medical 40%:
Ensure the welfare of animals in our care by attending to their physical and emotional health and comfort, following all ASPCA protocols.
Read and follow all kennel signage and treatment sheets regarding animal treatment and care.
Under the guidance of the ARC medical team, administer medication and medical treatments in a low stress manner, following all medication administration protocols.
Recognize potential medical issues and communicate effectively with medical teams so that they can quickly and effectively attend to animals.
Team Support 20%:
Send timely medical and behavior observation reports and actively engage with the team to implement interventions.
Work in partnership with other teams (Medical, Behavior, and across departments) to continually develop knowledge, and support continuity of care for the animals.
Collaborate with other ICAs, and attend and actively participate in daily ICA rounds, to support the continuity of care for the animals.
Integrate volunteers into daily care, providing guidance and coaching as needed; demonstrate respect and gratitude for volunteer support.
Transport animals, using low-stress animal handling techniques and following applicable organizational policies and protocols, between ASPCA facilities and to partner agencies.
Attend and participate in team meetings and training classes as scheduled.
Deploy locally or nationally as part of an ASPCA response once per year.
