As a Drop-in Child Care Attendant, you'll create a safe, welcoming, and fun environment for children participating in our Drop-in Child Care program. You'll work directly with families, ensure every child feels valued, and help support our YMCA mission and core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility.
KEY RESULT AREAS:
Demonstrate an understanding of, and the ability to put into practice the YMCA Mission Statement and Core Values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.
Ensure each guest is personally greeted warmly, welcomed into the program, and receives the “VIP TREATMENT” (Very important Person) during each and every visit. Responsible for ensuring that each guest follows check-in procedures.
Communicate, interact with, and assist all parents in a positive, helpful, friendly and genuine manner. Smiling, conversing and making eye contact with each parent and child is practiced.
Ensure each child's second visit is not exactly like the first, keeping guests interested and looking forward to future visits and surprises in our program.
Ensure that the entire Child Care area is kept neat, clean, organized and appealing to guests. Act as a contributing team member with all housekeeping tasks, cleaning/maintenance of equipment and routinely clean toys and equipment. Change crib sheets, walkers, and swings as needed.
Document and report accident/injury/incidents appropriately and in a timely manner.
Attend all staff meetings, trainings, and special cleaning days etc., as assigned by the Member Services & Marketing Director.
As an employee of the YMCA, the Drop-in Child Care Attendant is a representative of this organization. Appropriate dress and neat appearance, including complying with department dress code, along with a friendly and professional, positive attitude is always expected. Your name tag and a staff shirt with the Y logo visible at all times is required when working.
Continually strive to improve guest services by listening to and responding to all feedback, concerns or complaints in a courteous and timely fashion.
Demonstrate initiative in making and implementing suggestions/ideas for improvements in facility, guest services, safety issues, housekeeping tasks and overall Child Care operation.
Work regularly scheduled shifts as assigned, substituting as schedule permits, and perform other related duties as assigned by the Member Services & Marketing Director.
All staff are required to change diapers and follow diaper changing guidelines. Must be comfortable feeding babies and/or assisting children with toilet training.
Adhere to OSHA standards and guidelines.
Utilize a preventative approach to prevent misbehavior and misuse of equipment by:
Providing adequate supervision for all children.
Providing children with positive direction.
Implementing necessary intervention steps to ensure a safe environment.
Requirements
Experience working with children and families is required.
Preferred: Training or experience in Early Childhood Education or working with ages 0-6.
Ability to interact with children and families from diverse backgrounds.
Strong communication, patience, creativity, and organizational skills.
High level of initiative, dependability, and team spirit.
CERTIFICATIONS:
CPR/AED/First Aid certification within 60 days of employment.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must be able to lift young children as needed to assist them in and out of swings, cribs and equipment (children weighing approximately up to 50 pounds). Position also requires that staff person is active and alert for entire work shift. Duties may include: walking, standing, crawling, playing games, sitting on the floor, and holding infants.
