Overview of Position The role of the Head Cheerleading Coach is to teach the cheerleading team to promote school spirit and encouragement of Moeller athletic teams. Moeller High School sees the role of the Cheerleading Coach as being someone who, in addition to having a high level of knowledge in coaching the sport of cheerleading, can teach and model all the aspects of the Moller Mission. Ideally it will be someone who can coach young women in the sport yet help them keep a balance in all aspects of their lives, spiritually, socially, mentally and physically. Although a Moeller cheerleader is not a student at Moeller High School, she should be able to promote school spirit, school pride, encourage the members of the athletic teams, and be an ambassador of the school in the community. Promoting positive teamwork, positive interactions amongst teammates (and all levels of the program), modeling sportsmanship and fan involvement at games and pep assemblies are viewed as important aspects of being a Moeller cheerleader and coach. The Head Cheerleading Coach reports directly to the Moeller Cheerleading Administrator. This is a part-time, seasonal position during and in advance of the football and basketball seasons. The position is not eligible for benefits and is a stipend position in accordance with Moeller High School's athletic compensation structure. Key Responsibilities of the Head Cheerleading Coach include but are not limited to: Directly oversee the sideline varsity and junior varsity cheerleading teams for football and basketball teams at Moeller High School. Communicate frequently with the Moeller Cheerleading Administrator on all aspects of the team. Supervise and direct the assistant cheerleading coach and/or junior varsity coach. Recruit, train, and mentor student-athletes while emphasizing teamwork, discipline, and school spirit. Create and encourage a healthy culture on each cheer team that embodies the Mission of Moeller High School and its Marianist charism. Develop and maintain a positive, inclusive, and safe environment for cheerleaders. Participate with the administrator in the creation of the annual cheerleading budget. Effectively communicate with cheerleaders and parents before and during the seasons. Schedule and coordinate annual activities including but not limited to try-outs, uniform fittings, summer camp, weekly practices. Determine tryout criteria. Teach the material/stunts/dances that will be used during the seasons. Attend designated junior varsity and varsity football and basketball games to supervise the cheerleaders. Maintain contact and provide guidance with parent volunteer group as to what assistance is needed at events. Assist in organization of an end of the year banquet, awards, and senior traditions. Required Skills Proven experience as a competitive cheerleader or cheer coach. Ability to teach cheerleading techniques including tumbling, stunts, jumps, cheers, and choreograph high energy performances. Ability to lead, motivate and inspire a team of high school students from various schools. Comprehensive understanding of cheerleading techniques, safety protocols and OHSAA rules. Strong organizational and time-management skills. Ability to work with young athletes, foster discipline, and manage different skill levels. Evaluate cheerleader's performance and provide constructive feedback and guidance. Commitment to fostering a positive and inclusive environment for all cheerleaders. Bachelors Degree in Education, Physical Education or Sport Administration preferred.
