Make a positive impact in the lives of older Texans and Veterans! Join the Texas Health and Human Services Commission Office of Disability Services Coordination in Austin. As an Person Centered Practices Program VISTA Member, you will be a part of a team of innovative professionals who work to enhance aging services and programs throughout TXHHSC. The selected Member will work on statewide awareness campaigns, resources and projects that educate and motivate individuals, organizations, and community leadership to take a proactive approach to aging and assistance for veterans to help them remain in their community setting verses institutionalization. The selected Member will gain experience in aging services, public health, evidence-based interventions, partnership building, community engagement and will have the opportunity to gain professional experience while working in a state government setting. Member Duties : The Person Centered Practices VISTA will research and develop guidebooks for veterans and others who provide support. The goal of the guidebook project is to reduce the need for current or habitual institutionalization, and where applicable, helping people gain their full or partial independence where desired. The Vista will be responsible for co-leading the Strategic Plan Guardianship Workgroup which will be tasked with the creation of a guidebook to assist people in receiving supports in a Person-Centered manner and directive. The successful candidate will have an interest in older adults; an interest in public service; excellent written and verbal communication skills; the ability to work on multiple projects at once; a collaborative spirit; practice creating resources for the public; and an understanding of Microsoft products (e.g., Outlook, excel, word, PowerPoint and Teams). This position is a hybrid position (both in person and virtual) and relocation to Texas is required.

Essential Functions

+ Department efficiency and effectiveness Supports effective and efficient daily operation of the boutique or shop. Performs "opening and closing" procedures accurately per department guidelines.Receives and displays new merchandise.Ensures knowledge of current features of all new products.Utilizes cash register and or point of sale payment methods.

+ Department support Schedules and maintains the outpatient lactation appointments following lactation department guidelines.Triage calls from customers requesting outpatient lactation appointments and direct to appropriate resources to include breastfeeding support group, help with the boutique or shop, or an outpatient lactation appointment.Accurately schedules, changes, or cancels outpatient lactation appointments in Sharp Outlook calendar.

+ Equipment maintenance Per infection control practices, properly handles, cleans, and disburses the hospital grade breast pumps and baby scales.Accurately rents, records, renews, and facilitates collections of breast pumps and baby scales.Manages the grant breast pump fleet and coordinates with the lactation department to ensure availability for patients in need.Facilitates collection of renewal fees.Follows proper procedures for lost pumps.Properly completes pump rental forms and communicates issues to the rental company.

+ Receiving AccuracyHandles donor breast milk shipments.Properly accepts and ships donor breast milk in coordination with the San Jose Milk Depot.Accurately records and stores donor breast milk in the donor milk freezer.

+ Training and education Seeks resources when uncertain, in new situations.Appropriately refers customers for service as required for needs outside the scope of practice for a Lactation Educator.May conducts breastfeeding support group per department guidelines.Assists customer locate appropriate resources from Consumer Library.Assesses the breastfeeding needs of patients, families and consumers and develops a plan of action, including age/culturally specific considerations.
