Job Summary:
This position is responsible for enforcing the policies and procedures of the program, help maintain a safe environment for the clients, and provide support in the framework of recovery from substance abuse and alcoholism.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities (may include some or all of the following, based on modality): Respond appropriately to any emergency situation. Contact on-call staff when necessary. Oversee and monitor the proper distribution and intake of all client medication. Provide care for program participants and maintain order by monitoring client activities, providing crisis intervention and resolving conflicts, as needed. Maintain all safety and security policies and procedures, including bed checks, building security, and fire safety. Maintain daily logs. Monitor and maintain inventory of all program supplies, and assist staff responsible for purchasing of all supplies, as needed. Food preparation, planning, management, and service on a daily basis, as needed. Attend staff meetings as scheduled. Other duties as assigned.
Decisions Made on Own
Enforcement of all program policies and procedures as they pertain to clients, and maintaining protocols in the event of making spot decisions relative to a client's health and safety, including crisis interventions, referrals, and restrictions. Make 911 emergency calls, if necessary. Make decisions as to when a situation needs to be brought to the attention of the Program Director or Senior Treatment Coordinator.
Decisions Requiring Approval
Issues related to client discipline or restriction. Any changes or additions regarding client medication must be brought to the attention of the Program Director.
Education and/or Experience Required
High School Diploma or GED Knowledge of modality specific issues, such as substance abuse or homelessness. Must be knowledgeable with the Confidentiality of Alcohol and Drug Abuse Patient Record (Title 42CFR-Part 2)
Skills Required
Good written and verbal communication skills. Ability to follow and enforce the policies and procedures of the program. Be able to work independently. Ability to perform assigned duties while maintaining a perspective as to the place occupied in the rehabilitative community. Able to accept supervision and be part of a team. CPR/First Aid Training Must stay current with any modality required training, including but not limited to HIV/AIDS, Hep C, Narcan, Servsafe, Crisis Intervention, Harassment, etc. A COVID-19 vaccination is a requirement of the position. One COVID-19 shot is acceptable, contingent on the individual receiving the second shot within the allotted time frame.

Clients very regularly present with long histories of trauma and co-occurring physical and psychiatric disorders. Further, the nature of work in this field involves various uncertain, unpredictable and potentially dangerous situations. Occasionally the employee may encounter individuals who are actively abusing alcohol or other drugs; (s)he may be responsible for responding to emergencies as they arise including administering First Aid, CPR or Narcan or by contacting medical or law enforcement professionals to do so.

Job Summary:

If you answered yes to any of these questions, then Boston Health Care for the Homeless Program’s (BHCHP) Recovery Support Navigator will be an exciting opportunity for you.
As the Recovery Support Navigator (RSN), you will serve as a motivator, ally, and advocate for patients with substance use disorders (SUD) and will become an essential member of a patient’s care team. In doing so, you will help to provide case management and systems navigation to support women with SUDs specifically in identifying individual goals of recovery, accessing treatment services, and community resources. While primarily based at Rosie’s Place, the RSN will provide care for guests at BHCHP and Woods Mullen Shelter maintaining ongoing patient support across multiple systems and frameworks of care at all stages of change.
Hours: Full-time; Monday-Friday
Responsibilities:
- Provide clinical support to women with SUDs or co-occurring mental illness via short term crisis intervention, counseling, and group therapies in person or via tele-health.
- Collaborate with staff at Rosie’s Place in support of evidence-based services to patients/clients; support Rosie’s Place staff and guests around harm reduction strategy initiatives.
- Assist patients in navigating healthcare, recovery, and social service systems; serve as a liaison between the SUD treatment system, medical treatment system, and social service system to facilitate connections across all systems of care; facilitate referrals to appropriate treatment programs and community resources based on needs assessment; advocate on behalf of patients to help decrease barriers to care; build relationships with additional area treatment providers and community organizations.
- Offer motivational support for patients to identify and develop their own personal wellness goals and the pathways to achieve these goals; provide continuity of care by having a presence at Women’s only Wednesday at the Engagement Center and Woods Mullen Shelter clinic when applicable.
- Conduct active outreach efforts within Rosie’s Place and surrounding neighborhood to provide psycho- education and encourage participation with RSN, along with available supports and resources, at both Rosie’s Place and Woods Mullen Shelter.
- Participate in clinical case sharing with appropriate BHCHP clinical teams to increase care coordination to achieve health and psychosocial goals.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in social work/psychology or other related training preferred.
- Life support training certification (e.g. CPR, BLS, ACLS) from a course that includes a hands-on, in-person component. If not certified prior to the start date, applicant must submit certification within 60 days of the start date.
- Experience working with patients who have a history of housing instability, trauma, SUD, and mental illness; knowledge of healthy and appropriate boundaries when working with vulnerable populations and knowledge of harm reduction, stages of change, and trauma-informed care required.
- Ability to facilitate groups, conduct needs assessments, and provide care coordination; experience with clinical case management.
- Sensitivity to ethnic, cultural, and gender beliefs and behaviors; bi-lingual applicants encouraged to apply.
- Computer proficiency, strong organizational skills, and strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Compensation and Benefits:
- The compensation starts at $22.07 per hour and increases based on years of experience.
