Job Description
Through education, motivation, and leadership, the personal trainer assists member-clients in establishing and reaching their fitness/wellness goals. The personal trainer contributes to the overall success of the Fitness Center by embodying the mission, vision and values of the JCC.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provides guidance in proper exercise technique and variations of exercises to meet goals;
Assists member-clients in establishing effective fitness/wellness goals and develops the most effective training plan to achieve those goals;
Offers accurate and up-to-date information and advice on fitness;
Motivates clients and serves as a training partner;
Maintains a safe and clean exercise environment within the JCC Fitness Center;
Follows all quality assurance and other policies and procedures of the Fitness Center;
Maintains all required certifications;
Have a willingness and ability to “sell” fitness/personal training
Must attend required meetings and training sessions
Must possess an understanding of and ability to communicate and articulate JCC policies and procedures with members;
Serves as an ambassador for the JCC;
Presents and maintains a professional appearance and demeanor, including wearing appropriate attire and exhibiting respect and enthusiasm as duties and responsibilities are carried out;
Provides exemplary and courteous service to all staff and patrons;
Adjust schedule as needed to accommodate the needs of new existing member-clients; current available hours require afternoons, evenings and some week-ends.

Bachelor's degree in related field preferred

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

The employee is frequently required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; and talk or hear. Job requires standing for long periods of time and demonstration of proper exercise technique and ability and the physical ability to move up to 100 pounds. Trainers must be able to spot clients executing an exercise and be physically capable of assisting them or complete the execution for them if they are unable to complete the exercise.

The primary role of the Personal Trainer position is to provide one-on-one and small group fitness instruction to members of the Purdue community. Examples of Duties
Lead orientation sessions for members to ensure proper and safe use of equipment. Tailor sessions to participant ability/physical limitations and focus on helping participants achieve their health and wellness goals.
Regularly engage members via the phone for follow-up appointments and retention practices.
Assist members by offering useful feedback, encouragement, reevaluations, additional orientations and motivation to continue a regular exercise program.
Maintain safe and clean environment by enforcing all safety guidelines, conducting regular inspections, and reporting any maintenance issues promptly.
Ensure safety of patrons and be prepared to take charge in an emergency if necessary. Act as a first responder in the event of an emergency, providing immediate assistance, administering first aid or CPR as needed, and following proper emergency protocols to ensure member and staff safety. Report any accidents/emergencies immediately and complete accident reports as necessary.
Provide excellent customer service to all patrons by addressing inquiries, resolving concerns, and fostering a welcoming and inclusive environment. Solicit feedback from participants to continuously improve programs and services.
Maintain/perform regular cleaning of the workspace and fitness equipment.
Attend scheduled meetings and training sessions.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Equivalent to the completion of a high school diploma and one (1) or more years of experience in the fitness industry.
Must be available to work weekday evenings (5pm - 9pm) and/or weekends.
Knowledge of exercise science, training principals, and operation of general fitness equipment.
Ability to implement effective workout programs to a variety of fitness levels.
Able to collaboratively solve problems in a way that builds and maintains positive, productive, working relationships with members, employees, and the public.
Must have an Adult CPR/AED, First Aid certifications or ability to obtain within the first 60 days. Training will be provided.
Must be able to work in environment with frequent interruptions and background noises.
