The production of acetic acid began in 1884.
In 1898, therefore, he built a refinery to separate wood alcohol into pure methanol, chemicalacetin, and woodnaphta denaturating methanol.

The company operates five divisions: Perstorp Performance Chemicals; Perstorp Coating Intermediates; Perstorp Oxo Intermediates; Perstorp Engineering Materials; and Perstorp Formox. Its operations were merged with Neste Oxo, and in 2002 the entire group reorganized under the Perstorp name.
A new production facility for Neopentyl Glycol (Neo) was inaugurated in Zibo, China, operating alongside the existing Trimethylolpropane (TMP) plant that was established in 2008.
