What you will accomplish Management/coordination of multiple regular EIs including review of daily inspection reports. Ensure compliance with environmental regulations for transmission and other energy-related construction activities. Project work may include Federal land management, oil and gas development, transportation, water resources, renewable energy, transmission, pipelines, mining, habitat restoration, wildfire monitoring, and watershed studies. Supervise installation and maintenance of BMPs, erosion control devices (ECDs), and environmental exclusion areas during construction. Use topographic maps, GPS units, aerial photographs, and other maps and tools in the field. Take responsibility for team safety, develop safety plans (when applicable), and anticipate potential safety hazards. Experience and qualifications for success * At least 10 years of experience in environmental consulting inspection of linear projects required. * Able to inspect transmission lines and other energy-related facilities. * Familiar with soil erosion control and BMP installation and maintenance. * Familiar with agricultural mitigation plans/drain tile repair. * Able to work in remote areas, use ATVs or other four-wheel drive type vehicles. * Must have valid driver's license and able to meet SWCA's driver requirements and pass a background check. The Utilities Division is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the City's water treatment plant, 32 water wells, and 19 booster station facilities, and shares another water plant with the Town of Gilbert. Qualifications of individuals to be considered will include: Experience working in and throughout Virginia. Experience working with VA SWPP Guidelines BS or BA degree or a minimum of 5 years equivalent environmental inspection experience. An understanding of construction (e.g., pipelines, power lines, compressor/pumping stations, gas storage fields, wind farms, solar facilities, offshore facilities) gained through field experience. Strong oral and written communication skills. Strong negotiation and conflict resolution skills. REQUIREMENTS: The role of an Environmental Inspector requires meticulous oversight by highly skilled individuals stationed in the field throughout construction to ensure compliance with federal, state and local environmental regulations.     ERM is hiring a Lead Environmental Inspector to oversee environmental compliance during the construction phase of energy projects located across the United States. The projects we work on and the services we provide demand teams of multiple disciplinary professionals working collaboratively to meet our clients' needs. RESPONSIBILITIES: * The primary responsibilities of this temporary, field-based position include: * Preparing and conducting environmental training for construction personnel; * Conducting field inspections, monitoring and field survey work as directed; * Interacting with and serving as a point of contact with agency officials, regulatory agency staff, landowners, contractors, clients and other project members and conducting required agency notifications; * Reviewing and implementing project documents and providing direction, support and critical judgment on environmental compliance issues; * Providing technical leadership, support and direction to field staff. This includes the coordination of daily Environmental Inspector and Resource Monitor schedules and conducting morning construction meetings; * Critically assessing environmental conditions in the field to evaluate potential environmental impacts from construction; * Evaluating potential issues and concerns ahead of construction activities; * Overseeing the proper implementation of mitigation measures; * Conducting environmental sampling (hydrostatic test water, soil, etc.); * Overseeing and verifying flagging of wetland boundaries, cultural and biological resources exclusion zones, refueling zones, etc.; * Inspecting and documenting compliance with a project's environmental requirements by preparing daily written inspection reports that provide up-to-date and consistent written and photo documentation of activities observed in the field; * Participating in various construction meetings; * Preparing documentation to support requests for variances from environmental permits; * Evaluating restoration activities * Directs project Environmental Inspectors * Performing additional tasks as assigned or required.
