McKinley Elementary School was founded in 1912 in Petaluma, CA. After 100 years of educating students, the staff at is even more committed and resolved to ensure that each student receives an excellent education.
Part of the original steps which went up the embankment to the school are still there, but the lower end of the staircase was changed when Main Street was widened.In 1926 the school building on Adobe Road was built.
The first eighth grade graduation was held in this building in 1927.
In Spring 2004, Moneca Halsey took over for the late Karen Saunders’ whose death was a huge loss for us.
Most of our later students went on to college, either the J.C. or four-year schools. It was written on 10/31/2015, by a highly esteemed founding teacher, Irene Collins, who retired.
