We are seeking a dedicated Public Health Education Specialist / Academic Detailer to
join our team and lead provider education efforts around access to care for patients with
rare diseases. This role will be responsible for the development and implementation of
an academic detailing program designed to educate healthcare providers about the
access model, approved model drugs, and claims submission processes.
The Public Health Education Specialist / Academic Detailer will play a vital role in
bridging public health education with clinical practice through provider engagement,
one-on-one academic detailing visits, and the creation of high-impact educational
materials.

- Modifying chemotherapy plans in the electronic health record (EHR), in collaboration with the multi-disciplinary team, to ensure plans are accurate for patient's age and performance status, pre-medications are appropriate for patient-specific factors and relevant drug interactions have been identified and addressed.
- Communication and documentation of findings and pharmacist interventions with providers and providing appropriate alternatives to current treatment plans as needed.
- Position may include optimization of patient medication adherence through counseling, education, and application of motivational interviewing skills. Documentation of patient education at therapy initiation and follow-up, including review of oncology & supportive medication effectiveness, side effects, lab monitoring, expected outcomes of therapy.
- Understanding of Specialty Pharmacy Benefit Managers (PBMs) and formulary requirements. Identifying and recommending alternative medications for requests for non-formulary specialty drugs required by insurances.
- Providing experiential instruction to Doctor of Pharmacy Students and OhioHealth pharmacy residents.
**Responsibilities And Duties:**
50% - Reviews physician orders for correct drug choice, dosage form, dosing schedule, and possible drug-drug interactions or allergies. Contacts physicians to clarify orders as appropriate. Dispenses and compounds medications and dispenses drug therapy-related devises in accordance to standards of practice and OhioHealth pharmacy policies. Ensures all medications, chemicals and supplies are dispensed without suboptimal integrity. Ensures appropriate labeling for proper administration of medication. Interprets prescriptions and determines compatibility in accordance with standards of practice. Prepares care plan for patient to ensure optimal therapeutic outcomes and maximize compliance with therapy instructions.
20% - Manages individual's drug therapy by initiating, monitoring and modifying prescription issued to patient in a consulting relationship with a physician. Provides drug information to physicians, other health care professionals, and patients as needed.
10% - Counsels individuals with regard to their drug therapy by recommending drug therapy related devices and assisting in the selection of non-prescription drugs and appliances for the treatment of common diseases and injuries and providing instruction in their proper use.
10% - Assists with staff development and training. Provides educational programs for pharmacy, nursing, and medical staff as needed.
10% - Directs and guides pharmacy technicians and pharmacy support personnel.

The Staff Pharmacist is responsible for the safe, therapeutic and rational preparation and dispensing of drugs within the Adena Health System. This position ensures compliance with all applicable laws, accrediting standards, health system policies and sound pharmaceutical ethics. Decisions are made independently or in collaboration with another pharmacist. This position may have access to patient and financial confidential information, non-controlled and controlled drugs and certain hospital funds. The Staff Pharmacist maintains competency and works with patients in all age groups unless assigned to work with a specific age group. Depending on area of assignment, the Staff Pharmacist may be required to complete the following tasks: direct patient interactions such as medication and disease state education counseling, minor lab procedures and interpret lab results, administer immunizations, and work according to approved health system protocols. As needed, this position may allow or require coverage at any Adena entity.
Duties/Responsibilities
Physician drug orders are processed in an accurate and timely manner, inpatient, outpatient and/or retail.
Ensures sterile and non-sterile medications are compounded accurately using generally accepted pharmacy principles.
Pharmacy operations are completed and documented accurately and in a timely manner. Proficient in all necessary IT systems.
Ensures each drug order is assessed for appropriateness and interventions made when necessary.
Ensures competence in all clinical activities relevant to area assigned.
Documents quality assurance activities for adverse drug reactions, medication evaluations, medication errors and other items as assigned.
Leads and directs pharmacy technicians, non-pharmacist support personnel, students, and interns to ensure daily pharmacy operations are completed in an accurate, timely, appropriate and efficient manner.
Completes tasks in compliance with all laws and regulations.
Minimum/Required Qualifications
Graduate of an Accredited Program in Pharmacy
Current license to practice Pharmacy in the State of Ohio,
