Primary Accountability The Pharmacist is responsible for performing various functions related to the Pharmacy Department. Verifies patient specific information and reviews/enters data into the pharmacy practice management system. Process labels for new and refill medications. Evaluates, selects, procures, and distributes prescriptions to patients. Completes third party rejections. Oversees cash register operations and verifies daily deposits. Monitors pharmacy security and day to day pharmacy operations. Fills schedule II prescriptions and maintains perpetual inventory log. Transfers prescriptions to other pharmacies as per patient request and documents on original prescription. Ensures regulatory compliance with patient referrals and with regards to the 340b program. Guides, directs and trains pharmacy technicians assigned as patient care techs to ambulatory care services. Participates in the development and implementation of policy and procedures, order sets and/or institutional guidelines to promote safe and effective use of medications. Serves as preceptor for pharmacy residents and interns. Adheres to all departmental policies and procedures. Confers with clinical pharmacist to clarify any discrepancies in the order prior to processing and compounding. Responsible for pharmacy technician oversight and quality of their work. Assures compounded medications meet standards for quality when supervising compounding, performing quality reviews of the finished product and completes recordkeeping in accordance with department policy and procedures. Accurately prepares and/or checks medications such as unit-dosed medications, emergency medications, automated dispensing cabinet inventory, and checks active inventory for outdated medications. Adheres to all departmental policies and procedures along with state and federal regulations as they pertain to sterile compounding and hazardous drug handling (USP 797/800).
