SUMMARY The Pharmacist in Charge is responsible for the operational compliance and management of the Pharmacy and all associated operations. Plans, organizes, and implements pharmacy policies and procedures that ensures the pharmacy provides optimal pharmaceutical services, that meet all legal, accreditation, and certification requirements. Establish, implement, utilize and oversee an ongoing, systematic program of continuous quality improvement for achieving performance enhancement and ensuring the quality of pharmaceutical services. The Pharmacist in Charge will ensure the maintenance and retention of records for all transactions of the pharmacy necessary to maintain accurate control over and accountability for all drugs as required by applicable state and federal laws, rules, and regulations. Collaborates with other departments to determine needs, resolve problems, and improve processes that promote patient safety in accordance with accepted standards of good pharmacy practice. Develops competency assessment programs that ensure all pharmacy staff perform all duties and responsibilities with utmost efficiency and safety, while complying with all policies, procedures, and standards established at Covetrus. Oversee compliance of the Pharmacy: Responsible for the establishment and adherence to best practice methods for safe and accurate dispensing of medications. Works collaboratively with other departments and pharmacy teams. Liaises with other department managers to convey information to and from the pharmacy which would impact the order processing and shipping methods/timing to customers. Oversee adherence of the Pharmacy Quality and Training Programs Conducts annual review of pharmacy's policies and procedures to ensure applicability to current pharmacy regulations and operational workflow. Ensures pharmacy personnel adhere to approved policies and procedures. Ensures competency of pharmacy staff through the administration of pharmacy on-boarding and continuous training programs. Leads and oversees the site process for root cause analysis and corrective and preventive action (CAPA) associated with non-conformity or quality related issues associated with the practice of pharmacy. Responsible for leading site in delivery of quality metrics. Supervises pharmacy personnel: Guides, directs, and coaches staff in the overall functionality and effectiveness to ensure the pharmacy's compliance with the regulations governing the practice of pharmacy, industry standards and quality principles. Ensures the hiring of pharmacy team members meets regulatory and accreditation standards. Regulatory Uphold multi-state pharmacy and pharmacist licensure, accreditations, and certifications to ensure business continuity and patient care. Maintains working knowledge of current pharmacy laws and regulations and industry standards through participation in professional memberships, attending meetings, seminars, lectures, and reading journals. Ensures the pharmacy is in compliance with the regulations of all applicable government agencies regulating drug and pharmacy storage, distribution, and transportation, such as OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration), DEA (Drug Enforcement Agency), and DOT. Ensures the pharmacy complies with vendor pharmacovigilance requirements as determined by signed agreements. Random daily compliance checks, monthly audits, routine inspections performed by regulatory agencies Serve as the pharmacies designated person as defined by USP and enforceable by pharmacy regulations. Licensure in those non-resident states requiring PIC (Pharmacist in Charge) to hold licensure.
