NM Sterile Product Preparation Certification is required. Safe Handling of Hazardous Medications course (or similar course approved by pharmacy director/manager) is required within 2 months. SKILLS: Effective verbal and written communication skills Advanced mathematical skills required Keyboarding skills are preferred (must be able to develop competence using hospital pharmacy software). POSITION SUMMARY Responsible for ensuring the proper compounding, dispensation, review, and verification of prescribed medications within regulatory guidelines, company policies and procedures. Provide pharmacy consulting services to patients regarding the effective usage of medications, awareness with drug interactions and offering preventive healthcare services. Support the efficient workflow of the pharmacy and assist the Pharmacy Director in identifying ways to optimize pharmacy financials, inventory management and enhance patient experience. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Assist Pharmacy Director with establishing procedures that promote the efficient workflow of the pharmacy including assigning roles, coordinating activities and soliciting employee suggestions. Ensure pharmacy operates in accordance with applicable laws and regulations. Responsible for opening and closing of pharmacy and shift change duties. Compound and dispense medications as prescribed by providers, by calculating, weighing, measuring, and mixing ingredients including drug therapy reviews, verification and medication management. Review, interpret, and accurately dispense prescribed medications when necessitated by workload. Ensure the use of all elements of dispensing in conjunction with state and federally-controlled substance laws. How you'll contribute A Clinical Pharmacy Specialist who excels in this role: Manages drug therapy protocols as a part of an interdisciplinary team. Reviews, interprets and evaluates medication orders to identify, prevent and resolve potential or actual drug related problems. Provides drug information and education to medical staff, healthcare professionals, patients, and pharmacy students. Documents interventions and their outcomes for use in drug therapy quality improvement efforts. Evaluates medication orders for accuracy and completeness prior to order entry. Checks for accuracy after filling by technicians. Maintains adequate knowledge of pharmacy automated systems and computer software.
