About this Job: Under the direct supervision of a pharmacist, the Pharmacy Technician provides prescribed medications and other pharmaceuticals to patients. The technician supports the pharmacy team in delivering safe, accurate, and efficient medication services to ensure high-quality patient care. Primary Duties and Responsibilities Assists pharmacists in obtaining patient specific information as appropriate for safe medication management. Routinely inspects all medication storage areas according to hospital's policy. Safely and accurately prepares sterile products using appropriate techniques. Employs appropriate precautions when preparing hazardous medications and Chemotherapy medications. Orders and stocks supplies necessary for the preparation of compounded sterile products (CSPs). Coordinates information between the nursing units and pharmacy necessary for the timely preparation and delivery of CSPs. Makes morning rounds when necessary. Performs daily cleaning and preparation of the IV Lab. Prints labels for CSPs using the pharmacy information system. Employs techniques to assure accurate medication preparation. Prepares medications in the most ready to administer form. Prepares emergency carts and boxes for closure by pharmacist. Fills stock exchange carts for OR PACU and IN & Out surgery. Labels medications according to hospital policy applicable laws and regulations and standards of practice to ensure safe accurate administration. Labels medications for dispensing with the drug name strength amount expiration date patient name patient location and directions for use. Assists in dispensing medications in a safe manner. Under supervision of pharmacist prepares quantities that are minimally sufficient to treat patient's needs safely. Transports medication to patient units within established departmental standards for turnaround times. Assures accurate and timely delivery. Adheres to all laws regulations and hospital policies regarding the management of recalled discontinued unused expired or returned medications. Selects and fills medication to be dispensed by the automated distribution system. Removes discontinued medications from the units and ADMs. Inspects returned medications for integrity before returning to stock. Segregates outdated or recalled medications from pharmacy stock. Accounts for all unused expired or returned controlled medications according to the law. Checks pharmacy stock for expired medications. Job Description PRN Pharmacy Tech III for Inpatient - Coverage for weekends/weekdays, day, evening and nights Job Summary The Pharmacy Technician III is responsible for providing pharmacy services, including, but not limited to, dispensing, preparing, compounding, and delivering pharmaceuticals, performing inventory control, compliance audits, financial transactions, providing customer service, and/or maintaining pharmacy records; is responsible for calculation, measurement, and compounding in accordance with USP and other best practice standards; works as part of an interdisciplinary patient care team, and under direction of the Clinical Pharmacist(s), Clinical Pharmacy Specialists, and/or other pharmacist leaders; performs technical pharmacy tasks such as medication history collection or specialized medication handling, compounding, and or processing; may assist in the onboarding and training of staff under the direction and guidance of Pharmacy Leadership; is designed to utilize and extend knowledge and competency while performing technical pharmacy functions of the Ambulatory Pharmacy, Inpatient Pharmacy, Infusion Pharmacy, or Pharmaceutical Research Center. About this Job: The pharmacy technician works under the direction of the health plan pharmacists to facilitate the safe and effective use of medications by enrollees/members and their providers. The technician prioritizes the needs of enrollees/members and develops and sustains collaborative professional relationships. Maintains knowledge of and assures departmental compliance with Medstar Family Choice policies procedures applicable regulatory requirements and accreditation standards. Primary Duties and Responsibilities Facilitates the accurate and timely processing of medication prior authorization requests. Communicates with patients providers and dispensing pharmacies to support medication-related requests and other departmental initiatives. Collects all pertinent information for Medical Reviewers (Medical Directors and Health Plan pharmacists) to complete medication prior authorization clinical evaluation. Supports regulatory requirements under the supervision of the health plan pharmacist. NCQA - Completes letter mailings and other outreach in accordance with NCQA accreditation standards for drug safety recalls market withdrawals and formulary change notifications. Annotates and prepares audit materials for reaccreditation process. CMS - Reviews monthly retrospective opioid retrospective DUR reports and action outreach in accordance with Federal Regulations. Prepares draft responses of annual CMS Audit report and submits finalized reports prior to deadline. MDH/DHCF -- Prepares and maintains any jurisdiction-specific required audits reporting presentations and/or tracking activities within designated timeframes.
